Biography

Original Timeline

Mileena was a female warrior that was native to the realm of Outworld. She was actually the creation of sorcery made by Shang Tsung with her being a hybrid of the blood of Edenian Princess Kitana and a Tarkatan warrior. After Shao Kahn conquered the realm of Edenia and merged it with Outworld, he decided he would keep the former king's daughter Kitana alive and raise her as his own daughter. Although Kitana grew up loyal to the emperor, unaware that he had murdered her real father, Kahn feared if she should ever discover the truth about her past, she'd turn against him. When Shang Tsung came into the Emperor's service, around 9,000 years after the Edenian Conquest, Shao Kahn then ordered his sorcerer to create an evil, vicious, and loyal clone of Kitana who would take her place. Tsung combined Kitana's essence with a Tarkatan's to achieve this purpose. Her purpose was to eventually replace her twin 'sister' Kitana during the time of her service to Emperor Shao Kahn. Instead of replacing Kitana as originally planned, Mileena would be used to watch Kitana and make sure she remained loyal to Kahn. As Kahn feared however, Kitana did finally discover the truth about her past and family. Although she continued to feign loyalty to Shao Kahn, she secretly plotted and waited for the right time to overthrow him. She was often paired with her twin sister Kitana with the two operating as assassins. Shao Kahn had requested that she watch over her twin for any signs of suspected dissension. Kitana later managed to recover her lost memories and discovered the plot to supplant her. Mileena was later murdered by Kitana but was brought back to life by the Emperor Shao Kahn due to her skills as a vicious fighter being needed to defeat Earth's chosen warriors. Her ability to read her sisters thoughts also allowed Kahn to stay one step ahead of his enemies. Shao Kahn began to grow suspicious of Kitana, and as such Mileena was ordered to watch over her sister. After finding out Kitana was indeed conspiring with the Earthrealm warriors, Mileena attacked Kitana, but Kitana proved to be the superior fighter and killed her.

Mileena's essence descended into the Netherrealm, fuelling her hatred for her twin sister even more. Mileena was later reborn in the Netherrealm where she became a servant of Shinnok. Her time as his servant was used as an opportunity to escape her fearful servitude and avenge her own death. In that time, she was resurrected by Shinnok and sent to Earthrealm to spy for him during Shao Kahn's invasion. She was also granted the ability to read Kitana's thoughts. After Kahn was defeated, Mileena was summoned back to the Netherrealm with Noob Saibot, who was also sent to spy on Shao Kahn. She intended to make an easy escape route by using Shinnok's war against Edenia as she knew that her sister Kitana would fight for her home realm. After Shinnok's defeat, she was again bested by Kitana and secretly locked away in an Edenian prison, perhaps in the hope that she would one day reform.

Following Shinnok's invasion, she was captured by Kitana and cast into prison until she was freed by Baraka. The Tarkatan informed her that he served a new master namely the Dragon King Onaga who had taken control of Kitana's body and used her as his personal bodyguard. Mileena intent on revenge over her 'sister' led to her deciding to serve Onaga where she began to pose as Kitana where she intended to lead the precious alliance of Edenia and Outworld to their doom. In this time, she continued to lead them in her disguise hoping to corrupt them to eventually follow her in her true identity. Mileena had seized Shao Kahn's Fortress using the Edenian forces, all in the 'name of peace'. Though she did this still under the disguise of Kitana, she had decided to continue her charade until the Edenian armies were corrupted enough to follow her under her true identity. Though at first confident that Outworld was hers to rule, Mileena soon discovered that Shao Kahn, alongside Goro and Shang Tsung, had mounted an offense against the fortress to re-instate Kahn's rule over Outworld. However, her plans to become ruler of Outworld fell when Shao Kahn returned during the assault on the fortress. At first, Mileena hid in the throne room, and had instructed her mages to cast a defensive spell on the main door. Their magic, however, proved futile against Shao Kahn's brute force, and soon, the former emperor was face to face with Mileena. Kahn broke through the defenses of the fortress with Edenian mages seeking to protect the Princess after she commanded they cast defensive wards over the doors. However, Shao Kahn effortlessly destroyed these defenses and sought to kill what he believed was Princess Kitana. The Edenian mages moved to protect their leader which was when Mileena stabbed them in the back and killed them. At first, Shao Kahn was confused at her actions until Mileena revealed her true identity and bowed to accept her master's return. Shao Kahn was pleased with this development and commanded Mileena to find the Earthrealm warrior named Shujinko as he intended to use him as a bargaining chip against Onaga. Shao Kahn accepted Mileena's surrender, and then commands her to capture Shujinko, who would be used as a bargaining chip in gaining Onaga as an ally. Mileena then sends Shujinko a false invitation, which apparently works, as Shujinko soon finds himself confronted by the dark alliance and quickly imprisoned after being captured by Mileena herself. However, having tasted power for herself, she was no longer content with being a minion. Deciding that she was destined for greater things, and with Outworld out of her reach, she sets her sights on ruling Edenia instead.

During this time, she encountered Taven in the dungeons of Shao Kahn's fortress. She battled the intruder, but ultimately was not successful in preventing his progress. She is later seen with the Forces of Darkness as they march to battle towards the Forces of Light. She initially battles Nightwolf rather than Kitana, and as Argus's Pyramid rises from the ground she is next seen being punched in the face by Stryker during a moment of distraction. Her last sighting is as Shang Tsung is near the top of the Pyramid, as she is seen leaping on his neck and biting him, only to be tossed off his shoulder. Ultimately however, Mileena was killed in her efforts to reach the top of the Pyramid, as were nearly all of the warriors present at the battle.

Reboot Timeline

During the Armageddon, Shao Kahn ultimately proved to be the victor of the conflict allowing him to gain ultimate power. To avert this timeline, the thunder god Raiden sent his experiences back in time to his younger self in the form of visions. With these, Raiden became responsible for altering the timeline as he sought to stop this future. Mileena’s history was largely the same as the previous timeline in that she was the cloned sister of Kitana. She was created under orders from Shao Kahn who desired a true daughter as he did not see his adoptive daughter Kitana as his child. Thus, Shang Tsung worked in his Flesh Pits where he combined the flesh of Kitana with that of a Tarkata to create a hybrid. Princess witnesses a sleeping clone lying on a table. When she awakes, she refers to Kitana as "Sister", and mockingly asks the Princess to come to her and become a family. Kitana is horrified by Mileena's creation, calling her a monstrosity, and attacks and defeats her. After confronting Shao Kahn about her creation, the Emperor reveals he knew about this the whole time. He sentences Kitana to execution for consorting with Raiden and the Earthrealm warriors.

In the aftermath, Mileena had risen to the throne of Outworld where she ruled as Empress and considered herself the rightful heir to Shao Kahn. During this time, one of her advisors named Kotal Kahn saw her as unfit to rule and led a coup that removed her from the throne. Despite this being the case, she managed to escape and led a rebel movement against Kotal Kahn who now ruled Outworld.

Though killed, a past version of her was brought into the present as a result of Kronika's influence over the timeline.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Mileena had physical features that were identical to Kitana with her having shorter hair though her features were somewhat twisted as a result of her Tarkatan heritage. This manifested in form of a large mouth that was rimmed with long, sharp teeth and large, orange feline-like eyes. Typically, she was shown wearing a tight leotard and mask, with her uniform being colored in shades of magenta though latter versions of her clothing tended to be more looser and showing more skin.

Mileena was noted for her hatred of her 'sister' Kitana to the point that it consumed her every thought. She wanted her 'sisters' status and to be Princess of Edenia which she believed was her right.

Her origins meant that she was considered a 'daughter' to Shao Kahn and thus his heir. Mileena herself though said that she did not relish serving him and believed that she was destined for greater things. In one case, she had to relinquish the throne of Outworld when Shao Kahn returned and she became determined to regain her former status. During that time, she desired to conquer Edenia for herself rather than fight her father for the throne of Outworld.

Powers and abilities

Though her form was based on Kitana, the signs of her Tarkatan heritage were present in Mileena's mouth that had rows of sharp teeth that she used as weapons in combat. This allowed her to vicious bite the flesh of her enemies or consume their flesh. Mileena embodied the best of both sides of her heritage where she was bloodthirsty and vicious as a Tarkatan but possessing the martial artistry and expertise of an Edenian.

She was able to fight with brute strength that rivalled that of a Shokan.

As a fighter, she was noted for being vicious in combat who was knowledgeable in martial arts where she specialsied in Ying Yeung and Mian Chuan. Her skillset allowed her to serve as an assassin with her initially saw her pair up with her twin sister Kitana in service to Shao Kahn. Her weapon of choice were a pair of twin Sai's that she used in combat. Mileena was able to charge these blades with purple energy that she could throw at her enemies.

One of her main abilities as a fighter was the power to teleport which she used to emerge behind her foe and hit them with a flying kick.

Due to being a twin of Kitana, she was able to read the thoughts of her sister.
