The Multiverse is a place that features in Marvel Comics.

History

The Multiverse

Originally, there was a single universe that was embodied by the First Firmament who deemed himself perfect yet alone. In his loneliness, he created life in the form of Celestial beings with these being akin to toys and servants. Such was their devotion to him that he named them his Aspirants and he was content in their worship. However, in time, others formed that opposed the state of existence and instead wanted their creations to evolve to the point that they could attain the power of the universe. These Celestials wanted know growth, change and ultimately mortality as part of evolution. This was considered sacrilege to the Aspirants and a terrible war was waged between the two branches of Celestials where the rebels detonated unimaginable weapons that splintered the First Firmament into pieces which formed new universes from his substance that became the first Multiverse. From the Second Cosmos, the rebel Celestials colonised this Multiverse and crafted their own servitors as they engaged in their great work. (Ultimates 2 v2 #6)

Overview

Each Multiverse was formed and ultimately destroyed where it ultimately laid the way for a new Cosmos to replace it. (Ultimates 2 v2 #6)

Locations within the Multiverse included:

• Quarry of Creation : the God Quarry was said to be a location situated at the edge of the universe that was accessible through a black hole where it was also known as the Inverted World and as the End of All Things. It was the home of the fabled Witches of Infinity who were said to be the gatekeepers of the gods who were older than the pantheons. (Thanos v2 #8) It was the home of dead and forgotten gods with those entering it being turned to stone and becoming part of its structure. (Thanos v2 #9) The witches were said to disperse the power of forgotten gods back into the universe. (Thanos v2 #8) At the bottom of the Quarry was a near impenetrable barrier that served as an entry point to the primordial universe where the Celestials resided who mined the Infinity Stones and delivered them to different realities across the Multiverse. (Infinity Wars v1 #5)

• Conductor : a titanic god-like being who operated the Train that came from a time and space beyond knowing who was regarded as a myth to Galactus. The motives of the cosmic being were unknown where it broke the universe down into fuel. (Silver Surfer: The Best Defense) It used living worlds to power the Train's furnace since the time of first memory as part of an endless labour. (Defender: The Best Defense v1 #1)
