Mutants, also known as Homo Superior, a breed of humans born with extraordinary powers that generally manifest on puberty or high stress situations. Some believe mutants to be the next stage in the chain of human evolution, while others say they are simply a new branch of humanity. Mutants are the subject of social persecution, but they have defenders such as the X-Men, Magneto and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Alpha Flight and X-Force.

History

Vanisher was involved with a drug cartel to produce Designer Genes that was a drug that imparted superpowers for a short time before killing the user. The retrovirus was created by harvesting DNA from Mutants by tapping into the bone marrow. (Uncanny X-Men Annual v1 2001)
