History

Nemesis-T Type (ネメシス-T型 nemeshishu-tī-gata?) was a successful type of Bio-Organic Weapon that was developed by the Umbrella Corporation's Europe Branch and deemed one of their most successful creations. By July 1988, the European branch set about completing their Nemesis Plan that aimed to produce a living biological weapon using methods no one had accomplished until that point. It operated in competition to Umbrella USA's own efforts at the Arklay Laboratory in developing their Tyrant Project. A common factor between the two programs was their use of a viral based mutagen developed by Umbrella with this being the T-Virus. By the Summer of 1998, Umbrella USA had successfully created not only the T-002, but a series of genetically altered clones dubbed the T-103s. The destruction of the Arklay Laboratory following a biological disaster presented Umbrella with fresh concerns as to the reliability of its products after it emerged a small police team had not only succeeded in killing the failed and outdated prototypes but the T-002 itself. Restarting the Nemesis Project, Umbrella Europe requisitioned several of the new T-103 clones to serve as test subjects. The NE-α parasites planted within their bodies succeeded in hijacking brain functions without killing the hosts. Soon after this procedure, however, at least two of the Nemesis-T Types demonstrated completely unexpected senses of ego and self-awareness, and made an attempt to escape from their laboratory.

Nemesis was one of Umbrella's more successful creations, Nemesis was a towering figure wearing a black trenchcoat who was sent into Raccoon City in September of 1998 to hunt down any and all remaining STARS members. Armed with deadly tentacles that were hidden beneath his coat and wielding a powerful rocket launcher, Nemesis first encountered the Alpha Team's Brad Vickers, who he killed outside of the RPD before turning his malevolent attention to Jill Valentine. He pursued Jill relentlessly throughout Raccoon City, both before and after she met up with UBCS members Carlos Oliveria, Nicholai Ginovaef, and Mikhail Victor. When the group sought to make it to the St. Michael Clocktower, Nemesis hitched a ride aboard the cable car they were using, only to be blown right back out by a grenade detonated by Mikhail Victor. Although the blast killed Mikhail, Nemesis survived and turned up at the clocktower a short time later, shooting down the UBCS extraction chopper before cornering Jill and forcing her to fight him.

With some help from Carlos, Jill succeeded in wounding Nemesis, who staggered away into the flaming wreckage of the crashed helicopter, but not before he'd used one of his tentacles to infect Jill with the T-Virus. After Carlos retrieved the vaccine from the neighboring hospital, Nemesis, sans coat (which was burned off in the fire), reappeared and chased them to the dead factory. There, he was defeated a second time by Jill in the facility's waste disposal room.

After being dropped into the biohazard waste bin by an automated dumping unit, Nemesis would return a third and final time as Jill was getting ready to leave the factory in order to escape from Raccoon City before it was obliterated by a nuclear warhead. Contact with all the chemicals and viruses in the waste bin caused Nemesis to mutate, but he was nonetheless destroyed by a powerful rail gun that the U.S. Army had left behind when Jill started it up and shot him twice with it.

Overview

In appearance, Nemesis was a large monstrous looking humanoid that was a B.O.W. created by combining the Nemesis parasite with a Tyrant body to serve as a host. In reality, the Nemesis was deemed to be the artificially created living parasite whose genes had been manipulated to create a living weapon. The parasite could latch onto another organism's brain and take control of the host in order to bring about a higher degree of destructive power. Thus, Nemesis combined intelligence with a destructive body turning them into the ultimate biological weapon suitable for the battlefield.

The host wore a protective coat which wrapped around their body which provided a degree of protection against bullets and explosions. Though it also acted as a fail-safe and limiter designed to help prevent the Nemesis from going out of control. Secretions from the parasite provided incredible regenerative powers to the Nemesis-T Type making them highly durable in combat. However, the effects of continual t-Virus exposure means that the more times Nemesis-T was injured, the greater it will mutate. Rather than possessing a Power Limiter, the Nemesis-T's mutations are theoretically kept in check by protecting its body with a thick coat designed to protect it from bullets and explosions.

The Nemesis could also mutate and evolve into a new form if it withstood further attacks with their design and abilities being completely unpredictable.

In its first form, the Nemesis resembled an enhanced Tyrant, at an intimidating height of over 8.7 feet tall. The first form of the Nemesis is also extremely fast, able to catch up to the player in seconds by taking a few large strides or a single bound, Has the speed to easily over the target's head. It has the ability to even dodge gunfire and explosives by either strafing or even catching them with one of its tentacles. The creature has great-superhuman strength, being able to smash concrete walls with ease, and it could break down half the subway in seconds, it also breaking open the big metal container with its own hands. The Nemesis’ 'coat' is made of an unknown bulletproof, glossy material which covers its full body, not even rockets can destroy it. This functions as a restraining gear to stop the NE-α parasite from going rogue while in the field. Beyond this restrictive gear, the NE-α parasite is regulated by a metal chest piece that is fitted on the host, specifically shaped like a heart on the left side of the monster's chest. The Nemesis can sprout tentacles from its body and use them to either attack the player by either whipping, piercing or grabbing them; traverse the environment with great speed by swinging around and climbing structures like grappling hook thus explaining why the Nemesis can be at one point and then another in such a short space of time, and evens against foes by infecting zombies with its own parasite, creating 'super' zombies.

Members

  • The Pursuer : a Nemesis that was deployed into Raccoon City with the mission to hunt down Jill Valentine.

Notes

  • Although Nemesis' origins were never delved into in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, it was later revealed that he was created as the result of an ordinary human being infected with a deadly tentacular parasite.

Films

  • In Resident Evil: Apocalypse, the Nemesis appeared in the setting of the 2004 live-action sequel where he was portrayed by actor Matthew G. Taylor. Formerly Matthew Addison, who was put into Umbrella's Nemesis Program and turned into the ultimate living fighting machine by Umbrella's lead scientist Dr. Isaacs. Armed with a rocket launcher and modified chain gun, Nemesis was released into Raccoon City by Major Cain for the purposes of testing his abilities. Initially, he was programmed to hunt and kill members of STARS. Nemesis wiped out the majority of STARS, including Captain Henderson, at the Mostly Colt gun store. After he'd also slain Peyton Wells, Cain changed Nemesis' instructions before he could also kill Jill Valentine and had him go after Umbrella's other bioengineered killing machine and the other half of the Nemesis Program (although she was unaware of it), Alice. However, once Alice realized that Nemesis had been her friend Matt once, she could not bring herself to kill him. This, in turn, allowed Nemesis to remember his former identity as Matt, and he turned on Umbrella's troops. Unfortunately, he was killed shortly thereafter when a helicopter he'd shot with his rocket launcher landed on him, crushing him.
