Biography

Nero was a male Romulan who came to reside within the Romulan Star Empire in the 24th century. At some point, he was noted to had gotten married with his wife Mandana becoming pregnant with the pair's child. He was off-world at the time when the Hobus star suffered a supernova which in 2387 ended up destroying the planet Romulus. As a result, Nero's wife and unborn child were both killed in the disaster with him witnessing the event first-hand. The loss drove Nero mad with a murderous rage where he came to blame Ambassador Spock and the United Federation of Planets. Seeking revenge, Nero pursued the Vulcan on-board his ship the Narada where he attacked the Ambassadors vessel. The two ships were trapped in a black hole that catapulted both of them 154 years into the past on stardate 2233.04. In this alternate timeline, the Narada came upon a Starfleet vessel named the Kelvin that was investigating the anomaly generated by Nero's ships arrival. Upon seeing the ship, Nero attacked the Kelvin where the Narada along with its future weaponry easily overpowered the more primitive ships in this era. This allowed him to overpower the Federation vessel where he demanded its captain come aboard the Narada in order to gather more information of this time. It was only then that Nero learnt that he was trapped in the past and he was overwhelmed with the thought of being robbed of his revenge on Spock. In a rage, he killed the Starfleet Captain and ordered the Kelvin destroyed though was unaware that the acting Captain George Kirk had most of the crew evacuated before this point thus allowing his wife and newborn son James T. Kirk to survive the encounter. As a final act, George Kirk rammed the Kelvin into the Narada but failed to destroy the Romulan vessel.

Nero spent the next twenty-five years repairing the ship and awaiting the arrival of Spock, plotting his vengeance against him and the Federation. Nero was, at some point during this time, involved in an attack on a Klingon prison planet and, using the Narada, destroyed 47 Warbirds. During his time on the prison planet, Nero sustained an injury to his right ear. When Spock arrived through the black hole in 2258, Nero captured Spock's ship, along with an entire compartment full of Red Matter inside. Rather than kill Spock, however, Nero abandons him on Delta Vega so he could witness the destruction of Vulcan from the planet's surface, killing the past version of Spock's mother in the process and creating a divergent timeline. Nero then moves on to destroy Earth in a mad, genocidal bid to alter the future and severely cripple the United Federation of Planets. However, Kirk and Spock manage to steal Ambassador Spock's ship, which contains the Red Matter, a substance that can create artificial black holes which was used to destroy Vulcan. Spock rams it into the Narada, releasing the Red Matter and creating a black hole inside the ship. Refusing the help Kirk offered him, Nero dies as his ship is ripped apart.
