Noah Burstein is a male comic character that features in Marvel Comics.

Biography

He later moved to New Orleans in order to continue his work and research. At some point, it was said that his wife had died with Burstein being devastated at the loss. He later met with Cyril Morgan who wanted a cure for his son Caleb who suffered from the incredibly rare disease known as atrophic ribonucleitis that had no cure. However, Noah made use of his knowledge in genetic regeneration and cellular restructuring to reverse the condition. Whilst working for Morgan, Noah began work on others in an attempt to perfect the process and duplicate the success he had with Luke Cage with Cyril funding his community health clinic. Around this time, Dr. Burstein gained helped from Dr. Lenore Mornay with the pair operating in the ninth ward. Dr. Mornay at first did not know of Noah's work as he kept them secret from her but he conducted his experiments on a number of subjects. (Luke Cage v1 #1)

It was later claimed that he had committed suicide in grief at the loss of his wife with Luke Cage informed of the funeral by Dr. Mornay. However, she confessed to him that she believed Noah had been murdered and that his research was stolen with his experiments coming back to haunt him. (Luke Cage v1 #1)

Overview

Personality and attributes

Noah was said to had spoken of Luke Cage often and was proud of him. Burstein was said to had seen Cage as being almost a son to him. (Luke Cage v1 #1)

Powers and abilities

A side effect of the Burstein Process was an effect he called the Amygdala Distortive Syndrome whereby the genetic regeneration affected key neuro-transmitters related directly to the amygdala that was the part of the brain that controlled emotions with the result being uncontrollable bursts of violent rage. (Luke Cage v1 #1)

Notes

  • Noah Burstein was created by Archie Goodwin and George Tuska where he made his first appearance in Hero for Hire v1 #1 (June, 1972).
  • In an interview on CBR with writer David Walker, he said, "Luke has a very high and strong opinion of him. That doesn’t come across in the show, but in the comics that’s always been there. They’ve always had this strong bond and relationship. In the comics, Noah is always referring to Luke as being just like a son. And Luke tends to think of Dr. Burstein as a second father."
