History

Nomus (Japanese: 脳のう無む, Hepburn: Nōmu?) was the name given a number of individuals that were engineered to be living weapons. Their origins were traced to the villainous crime lord known as All For One who had the ability to steal Quirks which he either kept for himself or imparted them to others. After being injured, he remained in the shadows for years and performed experiments to transform people into artificial humans that obeyed his orders. These were creatures that were referred to only as Nomu and had no personality of their own with them simply following the orders of a superior. Typically, they had a number of Quirks installed in their bodies and were considered powerful enough to challenge heroes. In this time, All For One came to gain the assistance of a scientist named Dr. Kyudai Garaki who was secretly involved in the creation of the Nomu. These early experimentation work on a project that would allow them to create a being that would rival All Might in power, which would become the core purpose of the Nomu. Under the guise of the Villain Factory, these experiments included kidnapping people and preforming bio-engineering experiments on them, radically transforming their bodies and increasing their strength into what were known as Next-Level Villains. Doctor Kyudai also would take inspiration from All For One's bodyguard, Gigantomachia, a being of immense loyalty to his master, who's capability of possessing multiple Quirks made him a valuable and dangerous asset. The earliest known created Nomu was Kurogiri, a being made from the corpse of U.A. High School student Oboro Shirakumo. Through combining various different Quirk Factors, like Oboro's Cloud, his final Quirk was Warp Gate. Unlike future Nomu, Kurogiri did not possess great physical strength, but was capable of speech and free thought. He was primarily designed to act as a loyal ally for his creators, first as an assistant to All For One, and later as the watchful eye for Tomura Shigaraki. While Kurogiri did not have the memories of his time as Oboro, some of his personality traits remained within.

A Nomu accompanied Tomura Shigaraki and Kurogiri in their attack against the U.S.J.. Arriving via portal, the villains staged a large scale attack against the hero school with the Nomu's great strength allowing him to easily subdue the pro Eraser Head. This saw the students attempting to intervene where Izuku Midoriya attempted to take out Shigaraki but the Nomu intercepting the strike with its shock absorption Quirk. It was only the arrival of All-Might that turned the tide of the battle where Shigaraki revealed that Nomu was created to defeat the No. 1 Hero. Despite its Quirks, the Nomu came to be overwhelmed by All-Might's strikes and he defeated the creature which came to be arrested by the police. This led to the authorities uncovering the true nature behind the Nomu and that originally he was just a small-time criminal whose body was modified to hold multiple Quirks. Their investigation led to them discovering a connection between the Nomu and All For One.

After All For One's defeat, a High-End Nomu was activated by the Hidamari Kindergarten where he went forth to complete his master's mission for him. This involved attacking the strongest hero at the time with this being the new number one pro hero named Endeavor who was meeting with a comrade named Hawks. Despite his power, Endeavor struggled in destroying the High-End Nomu who nearly killed him until he used a concentrated Prominence Burn attack that killed the intelligent hooded villain.

Overview

In appearance, the physical form of the Nomus varied greatly with some being muscular humanoids whilst others were winged creature. A Nomu could possess either a single Quirk or multiple Quirks in their bodies that enhanced their fighting potential.

It was said that a Nomu with black skin possessed powerful regenerative abilities.
