History

The Orb of Agamotto was a mystical relic that was in the care of the Sorcerer Supreme.

Using the Orb, Doctor Strange learnt of a dark presence in the mountains of Bavaria. (Strange Tales v1 #118)

Stephen came to sense a mystical disturbance on the astral plane that indicated that some entity was attempting to force its way into the physical world. He consulted the All-Seeing Orb of Agamotto where it showed on its surface that the source of the supernatural disturbance from coming from a small town located on the Carolina border. Unknown to anyone, this was the entity Ikonn who upon seeing the Orb's probing into his attempted manifestation on Earth clouded its vision to hide the site of his emergence. However, Doctor Strange came to uncover that the source of the supernatural phenomena was coming from Norcross University and alongside Clea the two pair went to investigate the event. (Doctor Strange v2 #47)

With his master missing, Rintrah was in charge of the care of the Orb and sought to use it for a spell to find Dr. Strange. During this spell, many arms with eyes on the emerged and attacked Rintrah with him only being saved by Clea. Though the demonic arms were gone do to did the Orb disappear. In reality, this was because Agamotto had become displeased with the Sorcerer Supreme and sought to reclaim his relics. When Strange opposed him, Agamotto imprisoned him in the Orb until the mystical being was convinced to change his mind. He then had the Eye, Amulet and the Orb returned to the care of Dr. Strange. (Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme v1 #43)

The Orb showed Wong and Jessica Jones the New Avengers situation during their mission to recover Echo which saw Doctor Strange being stabbed by the brainwashed Maya Lopez. (New Avengers v1 #31)

Strange was later informed by the Orb that Kulan Gath had returned and that the evil wizard's City of Sickles had manifested in the deserts of Egypt. Furthermore, he became aware that the third Eye of Agamotto had been sighted and determined that it was present in Latveria. Thus, Doctor Strange departed to the country in order to meet with Conan who was in possession of the third Eye. (Savage Avengers v1 #8)

Overview

It was noted to be powered by sorcery allowing silent forces that operated it where the Orb could show a spherical representation of the planet and showed dangers on its surface. (Strange Tales v1 #118) The power of the Orb was said to stem from necromancy with this being magic stemming from the dead. (Doctor Strange v2 #77) As such, necromancy could be conducted with the Orb allowing a user to heal their wounds. (Doctor Strange v2 #4)
