After the death of Darkseid, his horde of Parademons left Apokolips and took a Mother Box with them as they sought a new master to guide them. This saw them target the greatest source of energy in the cosmos with this being Oa where they decimated the Green Lantern Corps. Once there, they attached their Mother Box to the Central Power Battery but the energy of willpower that it generated lacked direction. It required a sentient to wield it leading to the Parademons placing Green Lanterns inside it to become their god by accepting the machine. Each Green Lantern refused and were in turn transformed into a Parademon leaving only Hal Jordan the only Green Lantern that had not been converted in this manner as he sought to stop the creatures.
