Biography

Origin

Phyla-Vell was the female child of Elysius and the Kree warrior Mar-Vell with her being the sister of Genis-Vell. (Captain Marvel v5 #16)

Her mother then contacted her to tell her that Genis had abrogated his responsibilities and thus she named Phyla the new Captain Marvel. (Captain Marvel v5 #16)

She later came to fight her brother Genis-Vell who was insane at the time. (Captain Marvel v5 #18) In the process, she came to help restore his sanity. However, she also tried to lay claim to the mantle of Captain Marvel but her brother Genis refused to give it to her. (Captain Marvel v5 #19)

Martyr

Alongside Heather, the pair went to Titan so that Phyla-Vell could visit the grave of her father. The two were then confronted by the Mad Titan Thanos alongside his compatriots Skreet. In the resultant battle, Phyla-Vell was easily defeated whilst Thanos took Moondragon hostage with him tearing off her ear as a message to Drax. The injured Phyla then sought out Drax where she found him on the planet of Daedalus 5 that was being targeted by the Annihilation Wave. However, the warning held no sway over Drax who was only concerned with his mission which was to find and kill Thanos with Phyla-Vell looking for a means of saving her love. (Annihilation v1 #2)

Phyla then goes with Nova and Star-Lord to lead a final battle against Annihilus, being saved at the last second by a massive energy wave caused by the just freed Galactus, which left only the three heroes and Annihilus as survivors. Ultimately in the battle, Phyla manages to steal away the quantum bands that Annihilus took from Quasar, weakening him and allowing Nova to finally bring an end to the Annihilation Wave. She is then seen re-united with Moondragon, and deciding it's up to her to become the new Quasar. (Annihilation v1 #6)

She was seen on the Kree fringe-world of Lamentis, helping with the rebuilding after the Annihilation Wave. Along with Moondragon, now her lover, they helped to defend a temple from raiders, wanting to teach that peace rather than violence was the way to go. They were attacked by a Kree Sentry when the Phalanx took over the War-Net. Phyla was the first to discover that the Kree Empire was cut off from the rest of the galaxy - as well as being told, by what she assumed were the Q-Bands, that she needed to 'Find the Deliverer. Find the Redeemer'. (Annihilation: Conquest Prologue v1 #1)

When Ultron faced trouble with the arrival of the Technarch also named Warlock and Nova, Phyla had a vision of Moondragon, communicating towards her from the edge of death itself, informing her that the barrier isolating the Kree galaxy has weakened and her bands are filling with energy once again. Though Phyla desired Moondragon to return, her lover urged her to help their friends. Joining the battle, Phyla returned Adam's soul to his body, once the Technarch Warlock forced Ultron out of it. Unfortunately, Ultron created a massive body out of 15,000 Kree Sentries that Ronan the Accuser was intending to use to annihilate Hala. Adam empowered Phyla with the souls of the Kree to give her the power to destroy Ultron. (Annihilation: Conquest v1 #6)

After the Multiverse was re-ordered, the Phyla-Vell and Moondragon of another reality went out in search of their universe's Reality Stone that now resided on Earth-616. (Infinity Countdown v1 #4)

She and Moondragon later answered a call from Star-Lord when he was gathering all cosmic individuals of Earth-616 for a gathering that would hear the last will and testament of the Mad Titan Thanos. Whilst attending, everyone learnt that Thanos had implemented a contingency plan whereby his consciousness that had been implanted on one of the people in attendance would activate allowing him to be reborn in their body. It was then that the gathering was interrupted by an attack from the Black Order and Hela who claimed Thanos's body in order to resurrect him. Everyone else at the scene then were forced to fall into a black hole in order to eliminate them but Phyla-Vell and Moondragon managed to escape by latching onto Beta Ray Bill who pulled all of them out. The survivors then joined Star-Lord's new Guardians of the Galaxy as they went about attempting to stop the resurrection of the Mad Titan. (Guardians of the Galaxy v5 #1)
