Biography

Origin

The Predator entity was a cosmic being that represented love within the Emotional Spectrum. (Green Lantern #43) According to the ancient Maltusian beliefs, the entity known as the Predator was rooted into their mythology. These beliefs linked it to the deities known as the Triarchs, specifically to their father Daalon. The myths state that over ten billion years ago, Daalon was slain by his children and his blood gave birth to demons that cried for vengeance. Their aim was to bring death to the people of Maltus but one of their number refused to fall down this path for he could not kill the innocent. It was this being that the myths label as the Predator who fought against his brothers and sisters which led to him being cast out from their number. When the Triarch departed Maltus, the Predator decided to strike out against the true heirs of their legacy who were the Guardians of the Universe. (Green Lantern v3 #42) Another account claimed that the Predator was a male persona opposed to the Star Sapphire who resided in Carol Ferris's mind. (Green Lantern v2 #181) However, the truth of the matter was that the Predator was in fact one of the sentient manifestations of the Emotional Spectrum. This entity was similar to that of the fear element Parallax and the will powered Ion but was the embodiment of love itself. (Green Lantern #43)

Predator

The Predator came to take the human Jason Belmore as a host to get closer to Carol Ferris who possessed the psyche of the Zamaron warrior named Star Sapphire. (Green Lantern v3 #42)

War of Light

The Zamarons had later managed to contain the Predator on their homeworld with Queen Aga'po believing that the unique nature of Carol Ferris having mastered the violet light of the Star Sapphires making her a perfect potential host for the Predator. (Green Lantern #45)

For a time, it was believed that the Predator was born as a side effect of Carol Ferris wielding the Star Sapphire. (Green Lantern v2 #181)

  • The Predator was created by Len Wein and Dave Gibbons where it made its first appearance in Green Lantern v2 #178 (July, 1984).
  • The character was retconned by Geoff Johns and Doug Mahnke into a creature of the Emotional Spectrum that embodied love.

Video games

  • In Infinite Crisis, the Predator entity appeared alongside the playable Star Sapphire character in the MOBA game where it could be used in combat against enemy players.
