History

Project Livewire was the brainchild of David Jenkins who was the assistant chief designer of the project. The group was founded by S.H.I.E.L.D. and was formed with the intention of testing the organizations lastest generation of androids that were based on the Life Model Decoys and their successors the Mannites. Once created, the Livewires combined elements of the superhuman abilities of the Mannites with the human appearance of the Life Model Decoys. As part of the program, ten androids were created but only five were left functional by the time of its Project's operation.

A predecessor program of the project led to the creation of the Mannites though their limited ability in covert operations led to them being eventually abandoned. In time, the Mannites and the Life Model Decoys would both become the technological ancestors of Project Livewire. (Livewires v1 #2) To prevent the units from running rogue like the Mannites, programing was installed in the machines to keep them loyal to Project Livewire. Six prototype constructs were ready by this point for testing with four more back-up units under construction with it being expected that a full production run being authorized once the ops testing was complete. (Livewires v1 #3)

Gothic Lolita was later restored where she helped in operations against a renegade A.I.M. splinter cell named Nü Flesh. She later worked with the mercenary Deadpool in shutting down the cell who had pirated the Merc with a Mouth's genetic material to create unkillable bio-mecha. (Deadpool Annual v4 #1) Despite their operations, the renegade nanotech from the Helicarrier remained dormant within Stem Cell before reactivating and taking control of her. It forced her to journey to an abandoned S.H.I.E.L.D. installation located in the Arizona Death Valley where it used her to rebuild the Livewires. The L.M.D.s were then commanded by a manifestation of the nanotech program that took the guise of a Nick Fury copy and intended to send forth an army of Livewires into the world to destroy all their enemies. At the time, Deadpool and Black Panther along with his team of his agents had separately discovered the installation. Once there, they were attacked by the Livewires but ultimately they managed to stop the mind controlled robots but were unable to stop the Nick Fury L.M.D. from escaping. The facility was then destroyed to prevent a spread of the rogue nanotech but the Nick Fury artificial intelligence managed to beam itself to another installation in Australia where it created fresh copies of the Livewires. (Black Panther and the Agents of Wakanda v1 #6)

Overview

The members of the Livewire team were a covert black ops unit within the U.S. government and their mission was to seek out and destroy other black ops units that had gone rogue.

Each of these constructs were considered mass produced infiltration optimized mecha assassins with near superhuman capabilities and considered magnificent specimens of artificial life. (Livewires v1 #3)

Through a nano-assembly process, the mecha were assembled by nanos whereby they applied exolayer of limited function nanomechanial smartware. Such a trait allowed them instant appearance alteration but they were unable to achieve full body morphing. Their nano-functions were kept strictly limited along with their reflexes and cognitive clockspeeds giving them near superhuman capabilities. (Livewires v1 #3)

Such was the depth of their programming that these mecha constructs were able to pass as humans than some actual humans. It was said that this stemmed from thirty years of Life Model Decoy socialization that was incorporated among the Livewires. Their programming included a prime directive that made the units completely loyal to Project Livewire with all other directives being tertiary, conditional and operationally flexible. The tertiary objective itself was engaging high priority targets of opportunity regardless of difficulty. (Livewires v1 #3)
