Biography

Ragyō Kiryūin (Japanese: 鬼龍院 羅暁, Hepburn: Kiryūin Ragyō) was a female human who by the modern age had discovered the existence and nature of the Life Fibers upon the discovery of the Primordial Life Fiber. From that point onwards, she became fixated in accomplishing the goal of the extraterrestrial parasites to dominate the world. She began using humans as test subjects for her Life Fiber experiments and to find those that possess a tolerance to the parasites. At some point, a civil war erupted that affected a hometown where she had gathered some test subjects. Ragyo had arrived on the scene to stop some soldiers from killing an African girl with her killing the attackers. She then learnt that the girl had a tolerance to Life Fibers and decided to adopt her as she had no home anymore with Ragyo giving her the name Rei Hōōmaru. Afterwards, she met Sōichirō Kiryūin with her marrying him and was with him as the pair engaged in experiments on Life Fibers. Their marriage produced a daughter that they named Satsuki Kiryuin who became part of Ragyo's experiment in infusing her with Life Fibers. However, the bonding failed as Satsuki was deemed too old to be infused with the Life Fibers. This led to Ragyo deciding to have a second child in order to begin the experiments on this daughter from a young age. The new-born child went through the experiments where she was seemingly killed and her body was disposed of in this time with Soichiro turning against his wife. Sometime later, Ragyo Kiryuin conducted a new experiment in having a child infused with Life Fibers and made Nui Harime who was born from an artificial Life Fiber womb with her being raised as a loyal servant. By this point, Ragyo was in charge of a world wide company named REVOCS Corporation that she used in her plot to allow the Life Fibers to take over the world. Her only surviving daughter Satsuki Kiryuin was allowed to establish her own base of operations that was Hannoji Academy in this time.

Ragyō located Isshin Matoi and sent Nui to kill him and steal his latest invention, the Scissor Blade, which Nui succeeded to retrieve one side of the Scissor Blade, with Ryuko gaining possession of the other half. Seeking vengeance for her father's death, Ryuko enrolled at Honnouji Academy, of which Satsuki was the student council president. During this time, Ragyō gifted Satsuki with Junketsu, a Kamui. She later attended the Great Culture and Sport Festival, but this turned out to be part of a ploy to sacrifice those attending to the Life Fibers. Ryuko and Nudist Beach arrived to free those held captive. Ragyō was then betrayed by Satsuki and the Student Council, who later sided with Nudist Beach. Satsuki revealed that she had been secretly working against Ragyō from a young age after her father had revealed Ragyō's true intentions to her. However, Ragyō brainwashed the student body to turn on Satsuki, who managed to overcome them. Satsuki then managed to confront her mother personally. However, despite wearing a Kamui, Satsuki was no match for her mother, who brutally beat her and stripped her of Junketsu. Taking Junketsu for herself, Ragyō then ambushed Ryuko and tore out her heart to be Life Fiber completed, revealing that Ryuko was Ragyō's daughter and that she thought she died from her previous failure of Life Fiber. Nudist Beach rescued Ryuko and brought her to safety while Ragyō unleashed the Life Fibers onto civilization.

With her defeated, Ryuko asked that Ragyo now accompany her back to Earth but Ragyo refused and plucked her out from her chest willing to die as she did not accept being defeated under anyone else's conditions except her own. She warned her daughter that despite her defeat that there were other Life Fibers out there in the universe that would come to Earth in time whereupon she crushed her own hurt thus killing herself.

Overview

Personality and attributes

Ragyo with Harime and Hoomura.

In appearance, Ragyo Kiryuin was seemingly a female human being with attractive features and an authoritarian stance whose most prominent feature is her resplendent multi-colored hair with a silver colour on top. She was typically seen with multi-colored light that seemingly emanated from her hair giving Ragyo the appearance of a figure of great elegance and power.

She believed that the Earth belonged to the Life Fibers. Kiryuin had a harsh stance towards anyone that opposed her and the Life Fibers domination of the world. As a result, she had absolutely no regard for human life, including her own, going as far as using her infant daughters as test subjects for potentially fatal experiments, and eventually committing suicide rather than accepting defeat after Ryūko kills all the earthly Life Fibers.

She was shown to be willing to indulge the whims of her inferiors, and was quite personable with those loyal to her whilst similarly being ruthless towards her enemies. However, she was individualistically treacherous and sadistic person who was responsible for brutalizing and maniacally taunting her own daughters, and tearing Ryūko's heart out simply to make a point. She enjoyed domination and control, lusting for power over the world in order to give it to the Life Fibers.

Initially, she came to love Sōichirō Kiryūin but he ended up leaving her after she began experimenting on their own children.

Such was her lack of parental instinct that she thought nothing of giving birth to a second child and using that offspring as part of her experiments in Life Fibers.

Powers and abilities

Her physiology had been enhanced with Life Fibers thus giving her superhuman strength, speed, reflexes and durability. Ragyō's physiology enhanced with Life Fibers provided her superhuman strength, speed, reflexes and durability, enough to physically overpower two Kamui-wearing opponents.

As a result of merging with the Life Fibers, she was able to heal all her injuries even fatal ones such as being decapitated. This meant that she was able to survive and recover from fatal strikes so long as a single Life Fiber thread remained in her body.

One of her more advanced abilities was Mind Stitch (精神せいしん仮かり縫ぬい Seishin Karinui? that allowed her to control humans like they were puppets. This mental refitting was done so sewing Life Fibers known as Marionette Threads into the brains of her victims thus bending them to Ragyō control. Some people with exceptionally strong willpower though were shown to break through this control over them.

The Grand Couture later created a special Kamui for Ragyo with this being Shinra-Kōketsu (神羅纐纈 Zettai Fukujū?) that provided the power of Life Fibers Domination (人衣君臨 Jin'i Kunrin?).

She was capable of forming a pair of giant, sewing needle-like swords, which according to her were made from ultra-hardened Life Fibers produced by the Original Life Fiber, that can sever Life Fibers and which served as the basis for the development of the Bakuzan and Scissor Blades. She also demonstrated the ability to alter their form, shaping them into a pair of spiked, tree branch-like blades.

Nui Harime was able to craft for her the Shinra-Kōketsu (神しん羅ら纐こう纈けつ?) that was a large garment worn by Ragyo and said to be the ultimate Kamui. The ultimate Life Fiber uniform where its full power can only be activated by absorbing a second person to use as a host. In terms of power, the Koketsu is the most powerful Life-Fiber based clothing, far surpassing the power of other Kamui and Goku Uniform.

The Kiryuin conglomerate later founded the Revocs Corporation (リボックス社しゃ Ribokkusu Sha?) that was headed by her where it was a heavily influentional textile company that accounted for 100% of global apparel industry sales. Its role was the spread of the COVERS (カバーズ Kabāzu?) and the dissemination of Life Fibers throughout the world.
