Biography

Whilst reading Murdock's files, Reader grew tired and fell asleep during a section that spoke of Matt crafting an alternate persona of an identical twin brother called Mike Murdock. By this point, the Reader's powers had been restored and the read manifested in making Mike Murdock a reality. Thus, the alternate persona became a living breathing being with his own consciousness and mind based on the writings in the read. Mike Murdock came to believe he was Matt Murdock's twin brother and that his sibling was a close friend of Daredevil. Daredevil took Mike to the Inhumans where he eventually came to Reader who revealed that Mike was a 'fragment' of an incomplete read. He was prepared to erase Mike but he managed to escape and took Reader's dog Forey hostage before departing the scene. (Daredevil v1 #607)

Overview

Personality and attributes

Powers and abilities

Through a reading, he could even manifest duplicates of people which Reader called fragments. These were unfinished thoughts and empty paragraphs given form through a read. He kept a tab by his side to unwrite such creations thus causing them to vanish. (Daredevil v1 #607)

Notes

  • Reader was created by Charles Soule and Ryan Stegman where he made his first appearance in Inhuman v1 #4 (October, 2014).
  • Charles Soule commented on his backstory on CBR, "Reader — love that guy. He’s an Inhuman, but he’s been around for a little while. He’s sort of my Mad Max character. He wanders the world getting into adventures. He’s also blind, and that ties into his power set in a neat way. Anything he reads becomes real, but his Inhuman community freaked out when he was a kid and put his eyes out, not wanting to deal with it. So he’s learned to manifest his powers through Braille. He has a ring of little tin sheets on his belt, each stamped with a different word. When he “reads” one — boom. Or whoosh. Or kzzak, depending on the word he chooses. He also has a great seeing-eye dog named Forey, which is short for Four-Eyes, the reason for which becomes apparent in the issue."
