Biography

Rex Tyler

He was noted to had grown up from a poor background. (Hourman v1 #5)

Many years ago, he was noted to had battled a costumed super-criminal named Doctor Cobalt who called himself the Lord of the Atom. The villain on one occasion was on the run with his chief henchman Jonathan MacIntyre where they attempted to run a roadblock set up by the police. Their vehicle was then caught by Hourman who was at the scene where Doctor Cobalt attempted to battle the superhero but was knocked out by his hired help MacIntyre. (Triumph v1 #1) In the aftermath, MacInytre was arrested and taken to court where he was sentenced to life in prison. Tyler was present at the court scene in his secret identity where he watched MacIntyre wife and son present during the hearing. Feeling he owed MacIntyre, Hourman in his masked guise visited his son the young Triumph at night at his home where he told the boy to learn from his father's mistakes and that he had a choice in life. This was a life changing event for the boy who looked to better himself and even become a hero. (Triumph v1 #3)

Personality and attributes

Among colleagues, he came to be known as Tick-Tock Tyler, the Hour-Man. (Adventure Comics v1 #48)

On the surface, he was said to had seem withdrawn and timid with his classmates in university thinking he was a nice person. (Hourman v1 #5)

By adulthood, he came to be known as a meek and mild scientist. (Adventure Comics v1 #48) At Bannerman, he was said to have had ideas but was too humiliated to share them. (Hourman v1 #5)

All his life, he had to accomplish miracles just to feel adequate. (Hourman v1 #5)

As Hourman, he came to be regarded as the underworld's most formidable foe. (Adventure Comics v1 #48)

Technology came to gall him when his son Rick Tyler began to take Miraclo against Rex's wishes. (Hourman v1 #5)

Powers and abilities

He came to discover a powerful chemical named Miraclo that incredible strength and the power of channelling lightning-speed that was almost as swift as thought. The Miraclo's effects were said to not be permanent and only lasted for an hour. (Adventure Comic v1 #48) It was regarded as a potentiogenic compound where it had made him famous at Bannerman. (Hourman v1 #5)

There were concerns that it was temporarily altering the users personality and was in fact changing their persona forever. (Hourman v1 #5)
