Ronan the Accuser is a male extraterrestrial comic supervillain that features in Marvel Comics.

Biography

Ronan

When he was young, he was noted for being ambitious and intending to climb up the social ladder. He came to know about Una-Rogg who was the daughter of Yon-Rogg with her coming from a respectable family. Thus, he saw her as a desirable catch and came to pursue as well as court her. This eventually culminated in the two sleeping together which was when she developed the rare genetic talent among female Kree to drain life energies from others. This resulted in an end to their relationship as she came to be considered a criminal under Kree law. (Captain Marvel v4 #24)

Afterwards, Ronan's mind was cleansed to be loyal to the Supreme Intelligence once again and he was dispatched on an assignment to Earth. The Accuser's mission was to find and capture Carol Danvers who operated as the masked superhero known as Ms. Marvel. This was because the Supreme Intelligence saw a genetic potential within her as she was both human and Kree with the intention of using her to become the mother of a new race Kree. Upon arriving on Earth, Ronan tracked and ambushed the hero leading to a battle between the pair. Despite her powers, she was unable to match Ronan's strength but his efforts were thwarted by the arrival of Mar-Vell. Ronan then seemingly surrendered where he claimed his mission was a peaceful one as he stated that Kree secrets were going to stolen from Carol Danvers mind. The Accuser then managed to catch both Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel off-guard where he took the captive on his ship that was in transit to the Kree homeworld. Danvers was going to undergo a brainwashing attempt by the Supreme Intelligence with Mar-Vell attempting to distract the Accuser by goading him. This led to him damaging instrumentation on the ship and Carol came to free herself after breaking the brainwashing. Together, the pair defeated Ronan where they returned themselves back to Earth whilst they sent the Accuser back to the Kree homeworld empty-handed. (Ms. Marvel v1 #19)

Annihilation

Whilst in the Kree/Skrull disputed territory, he was approached by armed Kree personnel who declared that he was under arrest by order of the imperial tribunal for the crime of sedition. Ronan willingly decided to surrender himself and return to Kree-Lar for trial. (Annihilation: Prologue v1 #1) A Rigellian named Tana Nile claimed to had witnessed Ronan making overtures with the Skrull baroness S'Bak in order to overthrow the ruling House Fiyero and take control of the empire. This saw him being stripped of his position and banished where he operated as a lone bearer of Kree law on periphery worlds of the empire. Ronan knew that the charges made against him were false and began to seek a means of exposing the truth and punish those responsible. (Annihilation: Ronan v1 #1) Whilst with Korath, he was attacked by the Graces who had sought to take over the planet with Ronan defeating them. (Annihilation: Ronan v1 #2) This resulted in a battle with their leader Gamora where the pair unleashed incredible amounts of energy whereby an unknown force was reshaping the planet's reality. It was revealed that the fight was part of the manipulations of Glorian who was used the energy to create a wonder world. (Annihilation: Ronan v1 #3) However, the planet then was attacked by forces of the Annihilation Wave who had begun to invade the universe whereby Ronan and others worked together to fight off the insectoid horde. He came upon Tana Nile who was mortally wounded but revealed that his disgrace was part of the machinations of Fiyero House to remove remnants of the old order so that they could rule the Kree empire. At first, Ronan sought to turn his back on his people but decided to return to Kree space to warn them despite the terms of the exile stating that him coming back was punishable by death but they were determined to warn the empire of the Annihilation Wave. (Annihilation: Ronan v1 #4) During the war, he found himself on Daedalus 5 where he joined the United Front that had been gathered by Nova Richard Rider in opposition to the Annihilation Wave. Ronan worked to aid the Kree forces on the planet where he moved in to lead them as House Fiyero who lacked any war-experience caused their military forces to suffer heavy casualties due to poor leadership. (Annihilation v1 #1) After defeating the Wave's forces, Ronan sought in a meeting with the Kree captains alongside Richard Rider and Star-Lord to discuss the performance of the Kree forces. The leaders were all members of House Fiyero who did not accept the presence of Ronan who was considered a traitor to the Kree empire. They attempted to force his arrest with Ronan reacting by killing them as he believed them to be a hindrance and poor warriors. He then offered to lead the Kree forces and requested a battalion of them in order to take the war to House of Fiyero in order to topple their rule of the empire. (Annihilation v1 #2) Alongside his allies, they came to Hala where they battled the military forces there in order to confront House Fiyero. By this point, House Fiyero had allied with the Annihilation Wave who dispatched Ravenous and the Centurions to aid them. Despite their presence, they were defeated by Ronan and his allies with the Annihilation Wave forces teleporting away. This saw the Kree Empire rally under Ronan's victory where the Accuser executed the traitorous House Fiyero members. Ronan then was escorted to the Supreme Intelligence where he was shocked to find the Supremor left in a state of living death after being lobotomised by Fiyero. As an act of mercy, Ronan killed the Supreme Intelligence and took leadership of the Kree empire. (Annihilation v1 #5)

Personality and attributes

Supreme Public Accuser of the Kree.

It was said that even from a young age before he became an Accuser that he was ambitious and a social climber (Captain Marvel v4 #24)

He was knowledgeable of Kree statute such as those detailed in the Tablets of Koth who was the first lawgiver. These stated that wherever land a Kree set foot on would be judged by Kree law. (Annihilation: Ronan v1 #1) The code of Ronan stated that, "He who is accused shall be sentenced, he who defies shall be destroyed". (Captain Marvel v1 #16) Ronan was familiar with the first rule of combat taught at the Imperial Academy which was to never turn your back on an enemy lest they strike you. (Ms. Marvel v1 #19)

After battling Ms. Marvel, he came to be impressed at Carol Danvers courage and remarked that it would bring honor to the Kree. (Ms. Marvel v1 #19)

Powers and abilities

The gloves could emit an electrical charge that damaged the nerves of a person he touched and left even superhuman foes in pain. It could also unleash a frigi-grip where it freeze a person and leave them in a cryogenic stasis state for ease of capture. (Ms. Marvel v1 #19)

As a Public Accuser, he was armed with the Universal Weapon that was capable of a number of feats. It was capable of creating or destroying physical matter at will. (Fantastic Four v1 #65) These sophisticated and powerful weapons were bonded to the will of their user allowing Ronan to affect effect matter transmutation and rearrangement. (Annihilators v1 #2) It was able to generate a temporal displacement bubble around a target causing them to age decades in the span of a moment. (Fantastic Four v3 #13)

• In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ronan the Accuser made a number of appearances in the shared continuity setting:
  • In Guardians of the Galaxy, Ronan the Accuser appeared as the primary antagonist in the 2014 live-action film where he was portrayed by actor Lee Pace. He was shown as being one of the blue skinned Kree who was dissatisfied with the peace treaty his world made with Xandar. As a result, he became a rogue zealot extremist that intended to destroy Xandar. Ronan later allied with Thanos where he served him and was accompanied by the Titan's daughters Gamora and Nebula. The three were tasked with recovering one of the Infinity Stones for Thanos.
  • In Captain Marvel, Ronan was shown in the setting of the prequel live-action film where he was once more portrayed by actor Lee Pace. He was shown as a soldier of the Kree Empire and a member of its elite Accusers who arrived on the planet Torfa to cleanse it of Skrull activity after the Starforce encountered he shapeshifters among the Torfans.

Video games

• In Marvel: Avengers Alliance, Ronan appeared as a hero character in the Facebook video game. His backstory mentioned him as being a member of the pure Kree aristocracy who was recruited into the Kree Empire. After defeating a Skrull fleet, he was made Supreme Accuser of the Kree Empire and became responsible for enforcing all its laws. He wielded the Universal Weapon allowing him to pursue his ruthless and twisted form of justice. However, his obsessions led to him being labelled a rebel and terrorist as it was believed he was working for the Mad Titan Thanos. As a result, Ronan began to seek his title back once more and restore order to the galaxy.
• In Marvel: Avengers Alliance 2, Ronan appeared as a villain character in the Facebook video game.
• In Marvel: Contest of Champions, Ronan was introduced as a playable character in the game.
• In Marvel: Future Fight, Ronan was introduced in to the mobile phone game where his appearance was based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe counterpart.
• In Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, Ronan appeared as a boss level antagonist in the setting of the Switch video game where he was voiced again by actor James C. Mathis III. He was shown to had allied with Nebula in order to hide the Infinity Stones from Thanos which were kept on-board a Kree cruiser. Their vessel was discovered by the Guardians of the Galaxy with Ronan attempting to vanquish them but was defeated in turn thus leading to the Black Order arriving to claim the stones.
