Savage Land
It was noted that one of its creators was a figure known as the Designer who came to be imprisoned within a vessel by his own race. (Skaar: King of the Savage Land v1 #5)
A seemingly covert faction within S.H.I.E.L.D. seemingly had set up a rogue mining operation for Vibranium with the indigenous people enslaved. This project was overseen by freelance agent Yelena Belova who sought to maintain the secrecy of the operation. (New Avengers v1 #6)
After World War Hulk, the last surviving Sakaarans moved to the Savage Land where they attempted to prosper in their new setting. This was until the arrival of Miek the Unhived who had mutated into an egg-layer and tried to have his offspring to survive. He began to prey on the Imperial Sakaaran village where he abducted people to be fed to his newborn offspring which never survived to adulthood. Miek then forged a deal with the Sakaaran village elder to draw the Hulk to the Savage Land in order to abduct him and use his flesh as nourishment for the bug's children. The Sakaarans then called for the Hulk and the Warbound's help to save them from what they claimed to be an unknown predator. Once there, they were drugged and Miek abducted the Hulk where he infested his flesh with his offspring that actually prospered. The Warbound came to save him and learnt of Miek's motivations with the enraged Hulk battling his former comrade. Despite his rage, the Hulk attempted to save Miek but the Sakaaran Native refused and instead seemingly perished as he fell into the collapsing ground. In the aftermath, the Warbound decided to go their own ways with Skaar looking to tend to Miek's offspring whilst Ellloe stayed with the Imperial Sakaaran village to aid them and No-Name looked to find other Sakaaran Native survivors. (Incredible Hulks v1 #625) In the aftermath, Ka-Zar sought to have the Savage Land interact with the wider world though faced opposition from several of the tribes. (Skaar: King of the Savage Land v1 #1) During this time, the Designer was freed from imprisonment and took Shanna the She-Devil as a host where the alien entity sought to remake the Savage Land back to their design. The alien being was ultimately stopped by Ka-Zar and Skaar who worked to free the Savage Land from the extraterrestrial intelligence. (Skaar: King of the Savage Land v1 #5)
After losing his claim to the throne, the Prodigal was sent crashing to Earth where he landed in the Savage Land. Seeking a way home, he was tricked by the chieftain of the Swamp Men to going into the abandoned High Evolutionary's citadel that was protected by a force field. He was convinced that a vessel was there that could be used to return home. It was then that Ka-Zar, Shanna, their son along with the Fantastic Four arrived to oppose them where the Prodigal was shown that he had been deceived. With the Swamp Men chieftain killed, the Prodigal decided to accompany the Fantastic Four to New York when they revealed that they could find a way for him to return to his home. - The Savage Land was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby where it made its first appearance in X-Men v1 #10 (March, 1965).
Alternate Versions
In other media
Television
- In X-Mens, the Savage Land appeared in a number of episodes of the 1990s animated television series. It was shown that long ago it was ruled by Garokk until he was defeated by the High Evolutionary who left him in a weakened state as a stone face statue. At some unknown point, Magneto discovered this region where he created a citadel as a base of operations and created a number of Mutates to serve him. He abandoned this location and the citadel was later taken over by Mister Sinister who used it as his headquarters.
- In Avengers Assemble, the Savage Land appeared in the setting of the animated television series. Justin Hammer sought to harvest Vibranium from this land as part of his plans to get admission into the Cabal and took control of Velociraptors native to the area that he used to take control of the region from the pacifistic stone people of the Rock Tribe.
Films
- In Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow, the Savage Land was referenced in the setting of the 2007 animated film. In this setting, the world had been taken over by Ultron with the Avengers almost entirely slain. Iron Man took the children of the Avengers to safety into a hidden installation in the Antarctic where he sheltered them until the sanctuary was discovered. Vision was tasked with taking the children to safety where he set a course for the Savage Land though he lost power before they could reach that destination.
Video games
- In X-Men: Children of the Atom, the Savage Land appeared as a playable stage in the fighting video game with it being associated with Wolverine.
