Within the Savage Land, Skaar was content to remain alone and spurned the friendship of Ka-Zar and his family. During this time, Skaar encountered an alien spaceship where he accidentally freed an imprisoned Nuwali known as the Designer. The entity took Shana the She-Devil as a host and sought to remake the Savage Land back according to his original design. (Skaar: King of the Savage Land v1 #5) In the Savage Land, he was approached by Norman Osborn who offered him a place on his Dark Avengers though Skaar did not accept initially as he said he needed to think about it. When Steve Rogers was captured, Skaar broke his cover and betrayed the Dark Avengers to free Captain America. (New Avengers v2 #23)

Whilst in the Savage Land, he was approached by the Hulk who had a new personality called Doc Green. He provided Skaar with money and left him in Paris in the belief that he would make a new life for himself. (Hulk v3 #7) In the aftermath, he made his way to Southern France where he took up the name of Santos by the Pyrenees Mountains and lived as a hunter.
