Sonya Blade was a female human who was born in the modern age in Earthrealm.

Reboot Timeline

In an effort to stop Shao Kahn's victory, Raiden sent a warning back through time to his earlier self in order to avert this future. This caused a change in the timeline as Raiden sought to use the incomplete experiences of his future self to prevent that timeline from occurring.

Afterwards, General Blade held a ceremony whereby Jax Briggs was discharged from service due to his injuries and Cassie Cage got promoted to the rank of Commander for her exemplary service in defence of Earthrealm. The event was commemorated with a sparring match with Cassie winning the fight against her mother. It was then that they were visited by Raiden who revealed that Netherrealm was planning a renewed onslaught against Earth. A plan was then made whereby a Special Forces team would sneak into their enemies stronghold in order to destroy the Cathedral of Shinnok that was the source of Revenant Empress Kitana and Liu Kang's power. General Blade along with Cassie Cage and Jacqui Briggs travelled to the Netherrealm where they snuck into the Cathedral whilst Raiden provided a distraction by battling an army of demons. They were ultimately discovered leading to a fight with the Netherrealm forces with the Revenant Liu Kang causing a cave-in underground. This led to General Blade being pinned down under debris and she decided to activate the hidden bombs whilst ordering her daughter and the surviving Special Forces to escape. Thus, Sonya Blade was killed as the Cathedral was destroyed though her soldiers ultimately managed to survive. Afterwards, Johnny Cage was informed of her death with him and their daughter Cassie in mourning over her loss.

During this time though, a disruption in the timestream occurred as the Titan Kronika sought to change history and thus create a new universe in her attempt to balance the realms. This saw many slain fighters being resurrected from past incarnations being brought to the present. Among them was the younger Sonya Blade from the time of the prior Mortal Kombat Tournament that was held on Shang Tsung's Island with them appearing at the Special Forces headquarters.
