Superwoman (Lois Lane)

Pre-Crisis

When Superman defeated Brainiac, the villainous android hatched one last plot against his rival. Brainiac was untouchable, far away in space, but told Superman via projection that he would mentally compel Lois Lane and Lana Lang to their deaths. But if Superman interfered, Brainiac would destroy the Earth! Superman needed to agree that he would be off-planet at the time. To save his beloved friends, Superman invited both women to receive a blood transfusion from him in order to give them superpowers. Lois gained her powers after Lana where she became known as Super-Lois and given a special costume. Superman’s gift had saved their lives, and their super-powers faded soon thereafter. The pair were happy to have their uniforms as momentos of their adventure. (Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane v1 #17)

Post-Flashpoint

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. Lois Lane

After being exposed to the energy of the Meta that killed Superman, Lois begins exhibiting powers like those of Superman, but using those powers causes nosebleeds. She goes to Lana Lang for help. She discovers that Lana also has powers. together, they become heroes, with Lois being dubbed 'Superwoman'. During an attack on Lex Luthor's battleship mobile base, Lois and Lana find a Bizarro Superwoman, who attacks them. Lois gets badly injured and begins emitting red energy. She says that she sees Clark, and that everything makes sense now, before turning to ashes. (Superwoman v1 #1)

  • The concept of Superwoman was created by Jerry Siegel and George Roussos where it made its first appearance in Action Comics v1 #60 (May, 1943).

Alternate Versions

  • In Justice League of America v1 #29 (1964), an alternate version of Superwoman appeared in the alternate world of Earth-3.
