History

The Titans (怪獣 Kaijū, lit. Monsters) were superspecies of gigantic creatures that once populated the Earth thousands of years ago. During this time, their dominion was a deep underground world called the Hollow Earth which once lived in harmony with the surface. In this era, the Titans served as guardians where humans named the Iwi were protected by the Great Apes.

However, during this time, one of the Great Apes developed an ambition to conquer the surface. Dominating his kin, he led them to war against one of the Titans that was a monster that ate a star. Known as the Skar King, he and his followers were defeated when they were trapped in a deeper layer of the Hollow Earth to serve as their fiery prison. Despite that, the Skar King remained obsessed with reaching the surface world where he came to harness a terrible power. This was the Titan named Shimo who had emerged on Earth during the Ice Age. Its power was able to unleash powerful cold to the point that she could freeze the world. With her under his control, the Skar King maintained control over his tribe as he waited for an opportunity to escape to the surface once more.

At some point, an invasive Titan-sized life form came to the Earth. This being was not part of the natural order and was actually an invasive species deemed a false king. The entity had an influence over the native Titans where it was able to reshape the world to its liking. Legend came to reference this entity as being named Ghidorah, 'the One Who is Many'. Legends spoke of this great dragon who fell from the stars as being a hydra whose storms swallowed both men and gods alike. As a threat to the balance, Ghidorah came to be a rival and threat to Godzilla leading to an ancient enmity between the two. Ultimately, Ghidorah was defeated but not killed where he was

Following World War II and the dawn of the Atomic Age, Godzilla was attracted by radiation emitted from the testing of atomic bombs in the Pacific. Additionally, following the mysterious destruction of several warships in the Pacific, Monarch was formed as a coalition between American and Japanese governments to study Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms in secrecy and confront any threats they may pose. In 1954, Godzilla was lured to Bikini Atoll in 1954 where he was studied by Monarch. However, the U.S. military sought to kill Godzilla with an atomic bomb. After Godzilla was in range of the bomb, it exploded and he was presumed to have perished, although he disappeared shortly afterwards. The bombing was subsequently covered up as an atomic bomb test.

In 1973, after a collaboration between Monarch and Landsat, Skull Island was discovered via satellite. As a result, a team of Monarch agents and Landsat employees, along with a contingent of U.S. Marines, spearheaded an expedition to Skull Island, where the organization believes ancient monsters still exist. The expedition quickly went awry after Kong, the last known surviving member of his species, attacks the squadron after they began detonating seismic charges on the island. Over the course of a few days, the expedition's numbers are further cut down from attacks by the island's various deadly fauna. The seismic charges also awakened the Skullcrawlers, a hyper-carnivorous superspecies rivaled with Kong's species. While the majority of the awakened Skullcrawlers are juveniles, the creature's massive alpha soon awakens and attempts to kill Kong. With help from the Monarch expedition, Kong was able to defeat the Skullcrawlers and allows the surviving agents and soldiers to leave the island.

In 1999, a strip-mining disaster in the Philippines lead to the discovery of two parasitic spores attached to the ribcage of an ancient skeleton. One of the spores hatches and the larval monster tunnels out to sea, while the other is declared inert by Monarch and stored in the Yuuca Mountain Nuclear Waste Facility. The larva eventually attacks the nuclear power plant in Janjira and cocoons itself on the plant's reactors. Afterwards, Janjira was subsequently quarantined and abandoned, with the power plant's destruction being covered up as a nuclear disaster. Not long after this, Monarch established an outpost over the planets's ruins to observe the creature as it grows.

Overview

In appearance, Titans came in a variety of shapes and forms with the most common characteristic being that they tended to be gigantic life forms.

Originally, the Titans were said to had once served as guardians of the world. It was believed that they provided an essential balance to the planet Earth. However, some were noted to pose a threat to humans and the world. They were said to be part of Earth's natural defense system where they protected the planet by maintaining the balance.

Species of Titans included:

  • Titanus Gojira :
  • Titanus Kong :
  • Titanus Mosura :
  • Titanus Tiamat :
  • Titanus Scylla :
  • Titanus Ghidorah : initially believed to had been an apex predator rival to Titanus Gojira but turned out to be an alien invasive species that came to Earth where it attempted to take over the Earth's natural Titans to reshape the world.

The most powerful Titans were deemed apex predators with some designated as being an alpha. Such specimens could unleash extremely loud and powerful calls that could be heard by other Titans from around the planet. Many Titans upon hearing this became subservient to the alpha and submissive to them though some were capable of rejecting them.

Some humans came to see the Titans as being the first gods of the world.

A means of travel around the planet was achieved through a series of deep undersea tunnels that went through a region known as the Hollow Earth.
