History

The Ultor Corporation

The earliest appearance of Ultor to date set in 2006 where the corporation was depicted as a small clothing company with its own stadium arena, the Ultor Dome in Stilwater, the fictional city which serves as the setting for the game. Although Ultor is not referenced directly in the storyline, the player has the option to purchase Ultor sunglasses from a jewellery store and compete in a demolition derby held within the Arena. By technicality, this would have been where Ultor was formed.

it is said that Ultor funds hundreds of millions of dollars into the restoration of Stilwater, turning the "once crime-ridden third-tier city" into an "urban utopia" after it has been torn apart by crippling gangs and a major earthquake. The redevelopment of the city came to occur by 2011 leading to the creation of a "new" Stilwater. By the time the player finishes Saints Row 2, Stilwater has been brought to rule by the 3rd Street Saints, the gang to which the player character owns, resulting in the death of Ultor's Board of Development and CEO Dane Vogel, who is later replaced by Eric Gryphon. Notably, during Saints Row 2, Ultor are revealed to be developing experimental mining equipment within one of their top-secret bases. Within the first downloadable content for Saints Row 2, a mission is featured which involves the player being chased by multiple new mining vehicles armed with rapid firing rocket launchers, and when the player asks "Where are Ultor planning on mining?", they receive the response "You wouldn't believe me if I told you". In the second downloadable content, the player tells an Ultor CEO that as long as they stop harassing the Saints, "Ultor can go to Mars for all I care."

After the Earth's minerals have been depleted, Ultor sets up mining colonies on nearby planet Mars to bring liberation to Earth and keep its peoples from extinction. During Red Faction, the player assumes the role of Parker, a miner in one such colony who sparks a rebellion against Ultor following abuse of the miners' human rights and poor living conditions. After the miners successfully escape Ultor's mining industry and return to Earth, Ultor plunge into an obsolete state, before being resurrected by the Earth Defense Force, or EDF, in Red Faction II. Mars is soon terrformed, leaving most traces of Ultor destroyed, with the exception of the science labs Alec Mason encounters during Red Faction: Guerrilla and the Marauders roaming the Badlands. The Marauders were the descendants of Ultor scientists who hid in the mines when the EDF attacked the facility.

Overview

In appearance, the Ultor Corporation was a multinational enterprise which invested in mining, clothing labels and city redevelopment. Ultor invested in mining, clothing labels and city redevelopment, but is also shown to have a much darker and more sinister side than what is seen in the public eye with poor business ethics; often enforcing manual labor and failing to provide good working conditions, and often having ties with street gangs purely for the purpose of providing a steady cash flow.
