Biography

Origin

Victor Zsasz

According to himself, he was born to a rich family with his parents being very much in life. During his childhood, he was provided for both emotionally and materially where he was given everything a child would want in life. As such, he did not suffer from a dysfunctional family background nor did he experience child abuse or trauma. Instead, he experienced all of life's pleasures where he had friends, attended parties and went on foreign trips with him engaging in all sophisticated activities in life. He graduated cum laude and three years later he came to head his own international company. Zsasz was incredibly successful and was involved in a string of billion dollar deals with these having been exciting times. When he was 25 years old, his parents had died in a boating accident with this occurring at a point when he was mature enough to handle their loss. Despite that, he was badly affected by her death where he sought a distraction from that loss which was when he found gambling and was swept up in a craze. Victor began to neglect his business where he won and lost fortunes all over the globe. (Batman Chronicles v1 #3)

The Joker came to kill a kindergarten class, and the grieving wealthy father of one of the children put a hit out on him. Hitman Tommy Monaghan accepted the contract, and used his superhuman powers to make it past the GCPD and Batman into Arkham. Zsasz and Two-Face spooked even Hitman, and he briefly considered killing them both for free, thinking the world would have been better off if they’d never been born. (Hitman v1 #2)

While guards escorted Zsasz to his cell an Arkham employee dropped her pen, which Zsasz used to slaughter his guards. He escaped Arkham, snuck into a police charity ball, and stabbed Alfred Pennyworth. The media let Zsasz believe Alfred was dead so that he wouldn't be a continued target, but when Zsasz took a young hostage and killed two police officers Bruce Wayne called a press conference to announce that Alfred was alive to rattle Zsasz. Zsasz freaked out because he'd cut a scar into his body even though he didn't succeed in killing, and he said his skin felt wrong. He made his way to Alfred's hospital room, but was beaten by Batman. (Detective Comics v1 #816)

The Society made plans for a worldwide prison break to free every incarcerated supervillain, and they sent Killer Croc to free Arkham Asylum's inmates. Zsasz was one of the released inmates, but most of them were captured and sent back to their cells by a group of superheroes called in by Oracle to deal with Arkham. (Villains United: Infinite Crisis Special v1 #1)

Post-Flashpoint

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.

During the War of Jokes and Riddles, Zsasz was shown to had sided with Riddler against the Joker in the conflict that raged in Gotham City. (Batman v3 #26)

Zsaz saw them as being like robots and that they would be better off dead. As such, he had no issues with murdering people and in fact intended to increase his tally. It was said that he did not exhibit the usual signs of mental illness such as voices, hallucinations or dementia. Victor had commented that he did not kill out of trauma or abuse but rather because he chose to do so. (Batman Chronicles v1 #3)
