A native of Alderaan, General Vanden Willard was a close friend of Senator Bail Organa and his family who joined the Rebellion and become one of its top generals. At the time of Alderaan's destruction, Willard had been speaking to Senator Organa through a Holonet channel, and he feared the worst for Princess Leia Organa. He was relieved when she arrived safely on Yavin IV with the Death Star plans, which Willard was in charge of extracting from R2-D2. Willard later helped General Jan Dodonna coordinate the Battle of Yavin.
Expanded Universe
After the fall of the Galactic Empire, Willard became one of the New Republic's top military instructors and was a member of the Grey Cadre.
