Yūichirō Amane (Japanese: 天音 優一郎, Hepburn: Amane Yūichirō?)

After his parents attempted to murder him, the young Yūichirō was brought to the Hyakuya Orphanage where he came to meet Mikaela Hyakuya and the other orphans that lived there.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Yūichirō Hyakuya was a male human with medium length black hair along with large sharp green eyes and thick eyebrows. He could allow himself to be possessed by his Cursed Gear gaining more demonic features.

In his youth, he was shown to had been moody and antisocial due to the tragedies during his childhood

Initially, he became disenchanted with the notion of family after seeing his parents try to kill him. At the orphanage, he at first sad that family did not mean anything to him. This changed though during his time among the other orphans who he began to see as his siblings. He greatly cared about family that he felt were those close to him. It was this reason that he was determined to find Mika again as he felt that his fellow orphan was part of his true family. Over time, this circle began to expand and came to include his friends in the Moon Demon Company. For his friends and family, he did not care about becoming a demon spawn in order to be there for them.

Yui felt a great sense of debt towards Guren Ichinose who had rescued him. For that, he felt he owed the man and looked to be useful to him.

After gaining his Cursed Gear, he shared his body with the demon Asuramaru that could manifest and possess him. Initially, he had the tame the demon to prevent it from taking over his body. The demon often goaded Yuichiro in order to cause him to lose control so he could take over his body. Over time, he looked to make more of a bond with the demon and did not care about Asuramaru's nature. Instead, he had a need of the demon and asked Asuramaru join him in being friends.

Another persona within Yui was that of the Seraph that could be accessed through a number of means such as by way of drugs or by him accessing the trumpet within his soul. After activating, he became the King of Salt and had a vastly different persona with him having nothing but contempt for humanity. He stated that mankind had harmed the Earth and vowed that he would turn them all to salt.

Powers and abilities

Yūichirō Hyakuya was born a human but one that faced extensive magical experimentation in secret by the Hyakuya Sect. These resulted in him being turned into one of the Angels (天使 Tenshi?, also translated as Seraphs) where he became a hybrid with 1/10th of him being not human. These seraph powers gave him greatly enhanced speed and strength.

After joining the Japanese Imperial Demon Army, he came to be taken under the wing of Guren Ichinose. He came to train Yūi to be a soldier with this leading to him becoming a skilled swordsman as a result. Such was his skill that he could easily take down Horsemen and had proven to be effectively fight and slay common vampires.

One of his chief weapons that he gained after joining the Moon Demon Company was a Cursed Gear by the name of Asuramaru (阿修羅丸 Ashūramaru?, lit. "Perfect Asura"). This took the form of a katana that he could wield in battle. Special drugs could be used in order to strengthen this connection but damaged his body. If he took more that two pills, the effects of the medicine played havoc on his body and nearly killed him.

A common gear given to members of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army were Cursed Gear Stimulants. These supplements were capable of increasing his synchronicity with his demon to 150% for 15 minutes. After that time was up, this synchronicity drops to zero. There were numerous unpleasant side-effects including one's internal organs exploding with a larger number of stimulants.

As the King of Salt (塩の王, Shio no ō), Yui was a powerful Seraph who was the Second Trumpet with its name referring to its power to create salt that consumed anything it touched. With this power, he could also fashion weapons such as spear that was forged of the substance. He created a large wave of salt that turned anything touched into salt that included Horsemen of John. During his battle with Abaddon, he managed to win the fight and turned the mighty seraph into salt as well. In this state, he recognised no one and was fixated with killing all sinners who he turned into pillars of salt. In addition, he gained tremendous physical strength where he was able to physically damage and even break the limbs of a fifth Progenitor Vampire. He also gained incredible regenerative power that was to the level held by the vampire nobility. This transformation ceased initially when Shinoa hugged him which left Yu in a coma for a week. It took 5 days for the drug to get out of Yu's system and even after that he felt tired. Yu had no recollection of the events that occur whilst he was in his transformed state. Later, he was able to get a level of control over his Seraph on his own.

After escaping the vampires, he initially came to join the Japanese Imperial Demon Army (日本帝鬼軍 Nihon Teiki Gun?) where he came to be assigned to the Moon Demon Company (月鬼ノ組 Gekki no Kumi?).
