The Yu-Ti is a title that features in Marvel Comics.

History

The Yu-Ti was the title given to the leader of the mystical city of K'Un-Lun.

Hundreds of years ago, the reigning Yu-Ti experienced a dream that was a prophecy of the future that showed the world being consumed by a firebird and that a red-haired girl would play a pivotal in this coming event. (New avengers v2 #25) ​The two visions experienced showed one where the girl tamed the firebird thus saving the world from destruction whilst the other showed the girl corrupted by its power to destroy everything. (New Avengers v2 #27) He began to seek out this girl amongst the trainees of Lei Kung the Thunderer but she was not present amongst them. He later came to find the girl within the outskirts of the city with this being Fongji Wu who had been born when her mother took part in the last pilgrimage to Earth. She came to have a child with an outsider but returned to K'un-Lun leading to the birth of her daughter though the child's red hair saw her being treated as an outcast. The Yu-Ti decided to have her taken to the temple in order to undergo the training to be the next Iron Fist. (New Avengers v2 #25) At the same time, he dispatched a messenger to recruit Leonardo da Vinci who held an important role in saving the world. Meanwhile, Fongji continued her training where she manifested some of the firebirds power thus indicating she was the child of prophecy. With her training complete, she went into the cave of Shao-Lou in order to become the Iron Fist. (New Avengers v2 #26) Thus, she was prepared as the Phoenix attempted to possess her and with it under her control she took the cosmic being into the depths of space where it could harm no one. (New Avengers v2 #27)

Since that time, the incident with the Phoenix's prior arrival was a closely guarded secret by the guardians of K'un-Lun and kept by the Yu-Ti. (New Avengers v2 #26)

Over 30 years ago, Lord Tuan and his son after watching other dimensions through a great crystal decided to venture outside the city of the immortals. This saw them accidentally coming upon the dragon Shou-Lao who nearly killed them but they were saved by an explorer named Wendell Rand. He managed to distract the creature long enough for the Yu-Ti and his son to escape but was injured in the process thus losing the chance to return back to Earth. He was brought back to K'Un-Lun were as a reward for saving the Yu-Ti's life he was made a citizen of the hidden city and even made an adoptive son of Lord Tuan. (Power Man and Iron Fist v1 #75)

After his death, Tuan came to join the ranks of the Yama-Kings who were the spirits within the afterlife of Feng-Tu. (Deadly Hands of Kung Fu v1 #21)

The Yu-Ti along with the Dragon-Kings stood present as Daniel Rand took part in the Challenge of the Many. After defeating his opponents, he was ready to take part in the final rite that was the Challenge of the One. (Marvel Premiere v1 #15)

The current reigning Yu-Ti came to visit Hope Summers after she was brought to K'un-Lun and told the tale of Fongji by Iron Fist. (New Avengers v2 #27)

Overview

In appearance, the Yu-Ti was a ceremonial title held by the leader of the hidden city of K'un-Lun. (New Avengers v2 #27) They were known by the title of the August Personage in Jade where they were regarded as the Father of Heaven and the Lord of the K'un-Lun Mountain. (Marvel Premiere v1 #15)

They were said to be men of the highest learning who had total control over their mind and body. (New Avengers v2 #26)

In addition, they were assist in the managing of K'Un-Lun by the four Lung-Wang (Dragon-Kings). (Marvel Premiere v1 #15)

Tradition and protocol dictated that the Yu-Ti was to be accompanied by guards when venturing out of the temple. (New Avengers v2 #25)

The Yu-Ti was burdened with many secrets that were their alone to keep. (New Avengers v2 #25)

They made use of a great spherical emerald crystal allowing them to watch other dimensions. (Power Man and Iron Fist v1 #75) It was shown that they were capable of using the Scrying Pool of Bo-Ling to seek visions on the nature of a threat to the city. (New Avengers v2 #25) The Yu-Ti had access to the Tree of Immortality and to the Elixir of Death. (Marvel Premiere v1 #15)

The royal family of the Yu-Ti was said to reside in the great shining tower of the city of the immortals. (Power Man and Iron Fist v1 #75)

  • The Yu-Ti was created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane where it made its first appearance in Marvel Premiere v1 #15 (May, 1974).
