History
The Zodiac Alliance of Freedom Treaty (ZAFT) was a military organization that formed to defend the PLANT colonies during the Cosmic Era. It was originally formed as a political group known as the Zodiac Alliance that was tasked with peacefully fighting for the right and independence of the Coordinators. ZAFT was created in CE 50 by Patrick Zala and Siegel Clyne but the organization itself came to be suppressed by the nations that controlled PLANT who forced them underground.
Overview
In appearance, ZAFT was a military organization that was charged with the protection of the PLANTs and colonies along with their interests. Unlike a typical military, they were a militia made up largely of civilian volunteers with no formal hierarchy.
The activities of ZAFT were controlled by the PLANT Supreme Council with its members reporting directly to the
controlled by the PLANT Supreme Council, with its members reporting directly to the chairman of the National Defense Committee
Most ZAFT forces were organized into independent teams that were named after their commanders.
An elite special forces united maintained by ZAFT was the Fast Acting Integrate Tactical Headquarters (FAITH) that consisted of personnel with remarkable war records and certain character traits.
They were the first military force to had developed and used mobile suits.
ZAFT had their own weapon producers that included Martius Arsenals, Maius Military Industries and Asimov Design Bureau.
It was shown to have had the cutting edge in nuclear technology.
Their headquarters was a ZAFT military station that was a large cylindrical space station in the PLANT homeland.
