History

The Zero Point Module (ZPM)

In search for the lost city of Atlantis, SG-1 were directed to the distant, fiery planet of Proclarush Taonas that was an Ancient outpost buried under hardened lava. Colonel Jack O'Neill, whose mind was rapidly being overwritten by a repository of Ancient knowledge, led the team to the power source, retrieved it from its console, and the team quickly escaped the unstable structure. They then traveled back to Earth and the SG-1 team, along with an injured Bra'tac, used the ZPM to power a second, larger Ancient outpost discovered under the ice in Antarctica. With Anubis's full fleet arriving in orbit and overwhelming Earth's limited defenses, O'Neill, with his Ancient knowledge peaking, inserted the ZPM into a depleted control chair console. The ZPM immediately provided massive power, which O'Neill then channeled through the control chair to activate an Ancient drone weapon platform beneath the ice. Thousands of energy drones launched, swarming into orbit and systematically destroying every single ship in Anubis's fleet with little effort, saving Earth. The ZPM's immense power was the key to this victory, though its use left O'Neill so drained he had to be placed in a stasis pod. (Episode: Lost City, Part 2)

Overview

In appearance, the Zero Point Module was a large cylindrical in shape translucent crystalline object that was handheld. The primary material was a yellow/orange color and included black, seemingly etched, markings. These portable power sources were inserted into consoles or stations in order to power them. Once placed, the device began to emit a bright yellow glow from its center, with a small red circle at the top illuminating, signifying it was active and fully engaged. (Episode: Lost City, Part 2)
