He was known for his vocal disapproval of the way the government from the mainland treated the islanders. While walking home late one evening to his farm near the mansion of [[Lawrence Phillips|Dr. Lawrence Phillips]], Ian heard strange, electronic noises coming from a cave. He went inside to investigate and was attacked by something in the dark. His boneless body was found later by [[Harris, Constable John|Constable John Harris]], and it was eventually revealed he had been a victim of a [[Silicates|silicate]].
