Red was the bosun of the S.S. Venture during its second voyage to Skull Island. When Nils Helstrom told him of the grisly fates of the ship's previous crew, Red, fearful of being killed, incited a mutiny. He forced Captain Englehorn off of the Venture along with Carl Denham and Hilda Peterson once they got to Skull Island (Charlie the cook, not liking Red, left of his own accord). When Helstrom tried to name himself captain, Red declared they were "done with captains" and threw him overboard as well.
