Prof. Erik was the assistant of the French scientist François. He helped him build the machine which would detect paranormal activity but which instead gave the evil entity inhabiting the haunted house they were in more power. He and François were dragged into a room where the ghost made the ceiling lower down on them, crushing them to death.
