Dr. Manton Haywood was an ornithologist studying pink-footed geese on the Wash near the town of Sutton. He took an intense dislike to Professor Lowson, blaming him and his expedition for disrupting the birds' nesting habits. He also had a particularly unpleasant relationship with wildfowler Mallard Glover. After Lowson's expedition unearthed the Slime Beast and it escaped, Haywood ended up becoming one of the monster's first victims.
