Dr. Paul Stewart was an American scientist living in Japan, who took over Dr. James Bowen's research into the immortal cells of the Frankenstein monster. He, his assistant Akemi and his close friend and colleague Dr. Yuzo Majida found and raised Sanda, a brown-furred "gargantua" who was the genetic offspring of Dr. Bowen's Frankenstein. When another gargantua, Gaira, terrorized the Japanese countryside, the military was quick to blame Sanda.
