Patrolman Luke Matson was a police officer in Clinton Center. He and his partner Fred Storr were patrolling Wharton's Swamp, searching for the missing Henry Hossing, who they believed had murdered Rupert Barnaby and Jason Bukmeist, who were also missing. The two however soon encountered the real killer, a monstrous mantle of black slime. Matson fired at the creature with his rifle, but this failed to harm the creature, which enveloped him. As a horrified Storr watched, Patrolman Matson was completely consumed by the monster. He was the slime's fourth and final human victim.
