Ivar was a Norwegian criminal attempting to steal Professor Gunter Erikson's formula for anti-gravity. To this end, he hired Dietrich Sorenson to impersonate one of the gargoyles on Raklev Castle, where Erikson had his laboratory. An impatient man, he made impossible demands of Dietrich, and after Dietrich had accomplished his mission, Ivar murdered him rather than paying him. He then fled, attempting to get away in a submarine piloted by his henchmen Emil and Sven.
