Mayhem

Mayhem was a ghost haunting the Stonebrook Theater in New York City. He was completely inhuman in appearance, resembling an enormous winged dragon or demon. He was green with glowing red eyes. The Ghostbusters got a call about an attack at the theater during a heavy metal rock concert, when something attacked the janitor in the basement, badly injuring him.

Arriving, they were directed into the basement. Patty Tolan encountered Mayhem first. He was possessing a female mannequin used for costumes and chased her until she found her teammates. The possessed mannequin kicked the door in. Declaring she wanted the ghost inside of the mannequin, Dr. Erin Gilbert fired at it with her proton stream. The other Ghostbusters followed suit, destroying the mannequin and revealing Mayhem who roared at them and flew away down the hall before going through the ceiling and into the rock concert going on upstairs, where the band performing was, ironically, named the Beasts of Mayhem.

Initially, everyone thought he is a special effect, until the band's effects technician yelled out that it's "not one of mine" and Mayhem hurled lead singer Adam through a wall. Rushing onto the stage, the Ghostbusters battled Mayhem and eventually captured him, to thunderous applause from the audience. Later, however, paranormal debunker Dr. Martin Heiss stopped by their headquarters and demanded proof there was actually a ghost in the trap.

Dr. Abby Yates refused, both because she didn't care what Heiss thought and because she was afraid of what will happen if she openws the trap and let Mayhem free. But the prideful Erin, eager to prove Heiss wrong, opened the trap. Upon being released, Mayhem hurled the terrified Heiss out of a window and then flew away. Following the Fourth Cataclysm created by Rowan North, the Ghostbusters faced Mayhem again, along with Gertrude Aldridge and the ghost of the executed murderer from the subway. They defeated all three.
