Cliff Screechers are a species that feature in Bionicle (Generation 1).

History

The Brotherhood of Makuta used liquid Protodermis and Viruses to create the Cliff Screecher species as part of their mission to create Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe. (BIONICLE: Makuta's Guide to the Universe, p.63)

Cliff Screechers settled around the colossal cliffs of the island of Odina and became a subject of fascination by its original sentient inhabitants, who spread legends about the Cliff Screechers that claimed that they were immortal because their spirits were housed somewhere outside their bodies. Later, the Cliff Screechers were one of the few species of Odina that survived the Dark Hunters' occupation of the island. (BIONICLE World, p.69)

When the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Cliff Screechers emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna. (Official Greg Discussion)

Overview

Like all Rahi created by the Brotherhood of Makuta, Cliff Screechers were biomechanical creatures whose bodies were composed of both organic and protodermic elements. Cliff Screechers were so named because of their attachment to the cliffs of Odina and because of the screeching sound they were known to make while attacking prey. Whenever Cliff Screechers were hungry or irritable, they would divebomb anything that attempted to scale their cliffs. Cliff Screechers hunted by knocking their prey off the cliffs, then swooping down and catching the prey subject before it could fall to its death, only to bring it back to the top of the cliff face and drop it again, continuing the cycle until the prey subject died of shock or fear.
