History

Origin

Ace Chemicals was a chemical plant that existed within Gotham City.

Post-Flashpoint

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.

After taking the Wayne fortune, the Joker sought to use the money to bring chaos to Gotham City leading to an event known as the Joker War. This saw large number of chemicals being brought into the city where the Joker gang members were meant to transport them to Ace Chemicals to produce a new variant of the Joker Toxin. Some of the shipments that were going through the Narrows were intercepted by a new vigilante called the Clownhunter. (Batman v3 #97) Around this time, damage to the Ace Chemicals plant led to deadly mutagenic waste flooding the sewers where a group of people were holed up to escape the chaos on the surface. Killer Croc came to save the people from drowning but exposure to the chemicals severely mutated them into animal hybrids. Waylon Jones then decided to take these transformed people as citizens of a new monster town located underground and even looked to add to its population by abducting people from the surface where they would be forcibly exposed to the chemicals. However, Batman learnt of Killer Croc's plot and managed to stop him where he along with his apprehended minions were taken to prison. Once there, work was done into helping revert the mutated people back to their human forms. (Detective Comics v1 #1026)
