Castamir

Castamir was the twenty-second king of Gondor, who usurped the throne from the rightful king Eldacar in year 1437 of the Third Age. (He was aided by revolutionaries who favored him over Eldacar; Castamir had pure Numenorean heritage, whereas Eldacar was half Rhovanion.) He ruled Gondor cruelly and harshly, even slaying Eldacar's son Omendil, and gained the epithet "the Usurper" as a result. In 1447, the people of Gondor sided with Eldacar and helped him retake the throne; Castamir was slain by Eldacar at the Battle of Erui during the resulting Kin-Strife civil war.
