History
Demogorgons were predatory creatures that were native to an alternate dimension known as the Upside Down. They were shown as being part of the hive mind of the intelligence that controlled that realm with them being extensions of the Mindflayer.
In 1985, another Demogorgon was kept in a Soviet gulag where it was used to devour political prisoners.
Overview
In appearance, Demogorgons were bipedal organisms whose appearance varied on what stage the creature was in its life cycle.
The organisms began began with the deposition of eggs or larvae within a host by a tentacle within the Upside Down. The slug-like larvae would later be vomited up by the host and subsequently escape into the wild. After this, the larvae underwent a period of rapid metamorphosis where moulting through each phase of their development until emerging as an adult. The process was shown to takes place over the span of a week for the newborn to reach adulthood.
The creatures were shown to possess six different stages to their life cycle:
- Stage One: Slug :
- Stage Two: Pollywog :
- Stage Three: Frogogorgon :
- Stage Four: Catogorgon :
- Stage Fix: Demodog :
- Stage Six: Demogorgon :
It was shown that like other creatures native to their dimension that they were vulnerable to heat.
All members of the species were subservient to the will of the Mind Flayer who made them murderous and violent creatures that had a limited intelligence.

- The Demogorgon was created by the The Duffer Brothers where it featured in the setting of the Stranger Things universe.
- It was named after the Dungeons and Dragon's monster of the same name.
