Neutron-S Missiles

The Neutron-S Missiles are a type of superweapon that features in Robotech.

History

The Neutron-S Missiles were discovered near the Third Robotech War by a covert branch of the Robotech Expeditionary Force under the command of General T.R. Edwards. After his insurrection, the weapons were confiscated by the REF where it was discovered that the missiles were produced by a scientific field beyond that of Humanity at the time. In order to better make use of the weapons, the REF consulted their alien allies the Haydonites so that they could loan their scientific expertise in better adapting the technology for later use. These Neutron-S missiles were then part of a scorched earth policy for use against the Invid controlled Earth should the Earth Reclamation Force fail to regain the planet. Several warheads were sent with the EFR while a test firing was held in the Omicon Sector by the SDF-3.

During the test firing, the weapon revealed that they were several magntitudes more powerful then previously believed and led to the creation of a black hole as well as severed the SDF-3's contact with the Reclamation Force. After the Invid fought back against the Human forces, the commanding general ordered the final alternative which was the launching of several Neutron-S missiles at Earth. However, the Invid Regess transformed herself and her people into a fiery phoenix which incinerated the warheads before they detonated thus saving the planet.

Sometime later, Space Station Liberty was assaulted by the Haydonites who revealed that they had hidden intentions on destroying all Protoculture addicted races which included Humanity. The assembled RDF fleet was nearly wiped out by the Haydonite forces who made use of backdoors into RDF technology that the Haydonites helped install. In order to defeat the invading forces, Vince Grant of the RDF detonated the remaining stores of Neutron-S missiles a Space Station Liberty which destroyed the station as well as the Haydonite fleet allowing the RDG forces to flee back to Earth space.

Overview

In appearance, the missiles were massive warheads that were part of a scorched Earth policy nd designed for use against the Earth at the time the planet was controlled by the Invid. The underlining aspects of the technology were not truly understood which was why the Haydonites were consulted in order to provide their technical expertise on the weapons. Dozens of such weapons were collected by the Robotech Expeditionary Force who stored the weapons at Space Station Liberty for later use.

The weapon works by encasing neutron star matter inside a shadow dimensional field which remains in place until the weapon is detonated. These missiles were so large, however, that they required the hull of large colony ships to propel them through space. It was believed that a single missile was capable of making a planet uninhabitable, however, the test firing of the weapon led to the creation of a black hole which signifies that they are capable of a much greater level of destructon then previously believed.
