Biography
Emil Blonsky
He remained in the Air Force Base in order to find an opportunity to get images of the equipment. However, turmoil erupted as the personnel were on high alert over the presence of a spy and General Ross's own mission to stop the Hulk. Blonsky used this opportunity to study the machine that Dr. Banner had created and bombarded himself with a higher dose of gamma radiation. This led to his transformation into a more monstrous mutated form that he claimed was stronger than the Hulk and he set about to destroy his counterpart. (Tales to Astonish v1 #90)
In Dimitri, Russia, the Abomination arrived where he was attacked by a mysterious red-skinned version of the Hulk. The pair battled where his opponent savagely beat Blonsky who was then executed with a special pistol that fired gamma-irradiated bullets. S.H.I.E.L.D. investigated the scene where they brought in Thunderbolt Ross, Doc Samson and She-Hulk to determine whether the Hulk had been responsible for the death. At that time, the Winter Guard arrived on the scene to prevent the American's from taking the body which briefly led to a fight until a survivor of the town revealed that the creature that had killed the Abomination was a Red Hulk. The empowered Blonsky was then dispatched to Earth in order to find the fragment of Death that resided in Marlo Chandler so that it could be used to end all existence. He emerged when the Hulk and his allies were attempting to save people that had fallen into an endless slumber by the Chaos King's spell where the Abomination badly wounded them due to their contact with Chandler. Blonsky's remains were recovered by a mysterious group where they used stolen biological samples from the Hulk in order to recreate the Abomination. (Hulk v3 #1) The near mindless Abomination was then sent to attack and kill Bruce Banner in a town in Colorado after he was suffering from amnesia due to a gunshot wound in the head. (Hulk v3 #2) The mindless Abomination battled the Hulk with the Avengers arriving at the scene to intervene in the battle. (Hulk v3 #3) They utilised a teleporter with the Hulk punching the Abomination through the transportation unit into Jupiter's vicinity. (Hulk v3 #4)
Despite his death, the remains of the Abomination reanimated once again. By this point though, the consciousness of Blonsky returned to it where he used the appearance of General Fortean as part of his own machinations. Using U.S. Army resources, he established Green Spring that was a project offering to weaponise gamma mutates to fight threats. Allying with Dr. Aliana Alba, Emil Blonsky was able to use a corporate front to secretly develop their operation in an isolated rural town. This involved using the gamma irradiated flesh of the Abomination to transform volunteers with this process being used to restore Skaar's powers. Through his guise as Reginald Fortean, he was also able to turn the general's daughter Dionne Fortean into a gamma mutate named Stockpile. However, she came to have suspicions about Green Spring and went on the run leading to her encountering Gamma Flight who began to investigate the mysterious company. (Gamma Flight v1 #4) This led to a confrontation with the Abomination where they shut down his operation but the villain managed to escape. (Gamma Flight v1 #5) Afterwards, he came to be recruited by New York Mayor Wilson Fisk where he joined his Thunderbolt organization that began to arrest superheroes operating in the city. Personality and attributes
Upon his transformation, he became obsessed with the new power he had acquired and believed himself to be the strongest being on the planet. This led to him destroying the equipment in order to prevent the creation of an entity stronger than himself. (Tales to Astonish v1 #90)
Emil Blonsky was noted to had been married to a Russian actress named Nadia Dornova. Though separated, he felt a need to try to win her back even when he had been transformed into the Abomination. (Incredible Hulk v1 #383)
Powers and abilities
Following exposure to gamma rays, Blonsky was transformed into a gamma mutate with incredible strength and power. (Tales to Astonish v1 #90)
After his resurrection, his body was upgraded that made him more powerful and had him emit radiation that could harm those around him. (Hulk v3 #3)
Notes
- The Abomination was created by Stan Lee and Gil Kane where he made his first appearance in Tales to Astonish v1 #90 (April, 1967).
- In Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A-Z v1 #1 (2008), Blonsky was identified as a communist Croatian Yugoslavian spy where he made three attempts at sabotaging the missile's at Thunderbolt Ross's base with these being narrowly averted but the U.S. Army personnel were unable to track down the double agent.
