Biography

Akame (Japanese: アカメ, Hepburn: Akame) was a female human who had a sister name Kurome where as children the pair were sold to the Empire. The Empire forced the pair to participate in a cruel exam with this involving the pair being sent into a forest inhabited by Danger Beasts. Those participating in the trial had to survive the creatures and escape from the forest with 100 children participating in the exam. Akame and Kurome were the only ones that managed to survive this test where they were overseen by Gozuki. He was responsible for parting the siblings as he refused to have hem join the same group as he believed it would lead to them depending on one another and that it would damage their effectiveness in combat. Akame was shown to had been the strongest of the siblings where she was sent to join Gozuki's new assassin squad the Elite Seven with her being trained in the arts of espionage and combat leading to her becoming a highly effective killer. The seven were given Shingu, weapons in which the Emperor 400 years ago created in order to surpass the Teigu but failed to surpass them. Akame was given Kiriichimonji, a Shingu where wounds inflicted by the katana cannot be healed. After a long unspecified period of time training, the seven were given their first mission. Akame was sent to kill Martha, a person in the nearby village who was a Revolutionary Army spy and also a close friend to Akame. This was done to test her resolve as Gozuki feared that she was far too kind for their purposes.

As the others finished their missions successfully, Akame led Martha to a graveyard with the intention of proving that Martha was innocent. Martha denies the claim and Akame tries to leave, proving to herself that the information that she was given was incorrect. However, Martha uses the moment when Akame turned her back to her to strike at her. Realizing the truth of the information she was given, Akame cuts her down and Martha dies by Akame's blade and this brings tears to Akame's eyes. Afterwards, Akame and Tsukushi disguising themselves among a traveling entertainer group. Soon the group are attacked by bandits and the pair help fight off their attackers, defeating all of them. Impressed by Akame and Tsukushi's skill in battle, the Entertainer's group attempt to recruit them both, revealing themselves as Rebels plotting against the Empire. Akame and Tsukushi signaled their comrades from the Imperial Assassin Squad to attack the group after this revelation, having confirmed that their targets are indeed rebels. Akame and her comrades eliminate the members of the entertainer's group, their mission deemed a success and they are both praised by their mentor and leader, Gozuki. After multiple successful assassinations by the group, the Revolutionary Army eventually turned to assassins as well, hiring the Tengu Mercenaries and the Oarburghs in an attempt to counter the Empire's assassination group, unknowingly pitting the Elite Seven against them.

Months later the Elite Seven would head on to their new assignment of destroying one of the supply routes of the Revolutionary Army in Hakuro River, Akame herself was stationed underwater were she would intercept and slaughter anyone who tried to escape under the water once her teammates begun their assault against the supply boats, The Seven then launched their sneak attack and successfully annihilated the Tengu Mercenaries, Akame herself managed to kill a few of them due to their attempts of escaping underwater, however unknown to her, Babra Oarburgh and Taeko of the Oarburgh clan managed to successfully sneak past her and escape down river and managed to get the physical description of two of her teammates, Najasho and Green. During a trip to Deng Zhi Town, Akame would befriend Taeko after being introduced to her by Cornelia. A day or so later Akame is approached by Taeko who says she has a message from Cornelia, Akame is then lead to the outskirts of the town by Taeko who then points to Cornelia's corpse. Taeko attempts to assassinate Akame who dodges and counterattacks. The two fight to a stalemate until one final clash ends with Akame emerging victorious. Akame then runs over to check up on Cornelia only to discover that she was dead. The rest of the team arrive on the scene where they mourn over Cornelia's grave until it's time to escape.

The constant deaths of her many comrades led to her becoming slowly dissatisfied and resentful of the Empire. One day, she was given an assignment to hunt down a Revolutionary Army General named Najenda who managed to convince Akame to defect to the rebels. After being swayed by her words, Akame abandoned the Empire though her actions caused an intense rivalry to form with her fellow assassin and sister Kurome where the two had a mutual desire to end the life of the other.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Akame was a young girl with long black hair that reached down to her knees and red eyes. Typically, she was seen wearing a dark sleeveless tank top with a white collar and red tie along with a red belt as well as a red side skirt covering a black pleated skirt. Akame also tended to wear long black socks, black shoes, red gauntlets and black gloves. She was also known as Akame of the Demon Sword Murasame.

On the surface, she was shown as being very serious and cold-hearted person with this stemming from the hellish training she and her sister went through at the hands of the Empire.

Despite her harsh nature, she was shown to care for her comrades and worried for their safety. Upon meeting Tatsumi, she put him through strict training in order to prepare him for combat. Akame said that she would only congratulate him upon the successful return from his first assassination. When Tatsumi returned, she inspected his body for any wounds in case his pride caused him to hide injuries that he could die from with Akame being glad he had survived. She came to ask him to always return from all his missions with him telling her that he would do so if she watched his back in the field.

Despite her skill, it was revealed that Akame was socially awkward.

Powers and abilities

Akame had been raised and trained by Gozuki who was one of the Four Rakshasa Demons who made her one of the Empire's most deadliest assassins for much of her childhood.

She was a Teigu wielder with her weapon taking the form of a long katana called One-Cut Killer: Murasame that was one of the 48 Imperial Arms. An ability of the weapon was that it introduced a poisonous curse into the body of the person it cut from which there was no antidote with it killing its target shortly afterwards.

After being affected by Murasame's curse and her feeling the after effects of the pill, her body was stated to now feel heavy and sluggish and she could no longer be able to move like she once did. This is seen where Akame could no longer move and fight in the same speed, finesse and accuracy as she once did due to her body no longer being in its prime.
