Dr. Kintobor

In an early version of Sonic the Hedgehog's origin, Dr. Kintobor was a kindly scientist who created the Chaos Emeralds as a way to contain the evil of the world. However, after meeting the future Sonic and supervising his accidental transformation into a speedster, Kintobor was accidentally infused with the evil energy of the Emeralds, which shattered into the Magic Rings and spread across the world. The energy transformed him into the evil Doctor Robotnik.

Note that Kintobor is Robotnik spelled backwards. In a probable reference to this, the Archie comic revealed Robotnik's real name as "Julian Kintobor."
