Varan was a flying kaiju.

Massive reptilian creature worshipped as a god by the cult of Obake. Varan was capable of moving on land, sea (by swimming), and air (carried aloft by a flying-squirrel-like membrane stretched from hand to foot. The creature was driven out of its submerged lair by pollution, and wreaked destruction until repelled by the Japanese Self-Defense Force. By 1999, Varan was among the monsters contained on Monster Island.
Novels
South American creature. Varan's flight is accomplished by means of inflatable sacs on its body, which fill with hydrogen extracted from the surrounding environment and allow it to float. Varan arose during the coming of King Ghidorah, and was repulsed from an attack on Texas through the efforts of G-Force.
