Alpha Protocol was an intelligence agency that featured in the game Alpha Protocol.

History

The origins and formation of Alpha Protocol were largely unknown except that it had been created by United States governmen in order to serve as a highly elite intelligence agency with the capacity to conduct covert operations. Its agents were meant to be highly trained and whilst part of the agency, a certain level of detachment was present so that any loss of an operative meant that no blame would fall on the United States government. This separation from Washington's bureaucracy allowed for complete accountability for the United States for any operation. As such, Alpha Protocol was both a designation for the agency itself as well as any operative that was believed to had gone rogue or traitor. The level of secrecy ensured that not many in the government were even aware of the existence of Alpha Protocol. Though highly secretive, there had been events where the organization was identified which had happened numerous times in the past - the most notable being in the 1950's. When this occured, the agency simply erased itself and began anew with a different name as well as different code names for its agents. This meant that Alpha Protocol was only its latest name as it had been previously been known as "G19" and as "Deus Vult".

One notable event in the organizations history was a black ops program with one of the agency;s founders being responsible for authorizing "Operation Northwoods" in 1962. This saw a planned initiative in order to start a war with Cuba with part of the operation involving framing the Cubans for the destruction of a passenger plan which was being conducted by the CIA. Fortuantely, the plan failed but demonstrated the steps the organization took in order to make the world a safer place.

Overview

Agents of Alpha Protocol were encouraged and trained to be mostly self reliant. Thus, whilst they were given needed funds and support; the agency pushed them to mostly form their own networks, contacts as well as resources. This was partly in order to ensure that no operations logistical elements could be traced back to Alpha Protocol. As such, since its creation, the organizations many agents possessed their own safehouses, accounts and even armories.
