Biography
Alyx Vance was the female human daughter of Dr. Eli Vance and Azian Vance. As a young child, Alyx lived in the dormitories within the confines of the Black Mesa Research Facility along with her father Eli and her mother Azian, while Eli was working at the Sector C Test Labs. When the Black Mesa Incident occurred, Eli managed to escape along with Alyx and a family picture, while Azian was killed in the incident. During the course of the incident, the G-Man was instrumental in rescuing Alyx, despite the objections of unnamed naysayers. Alyx was apparently too young to remember this, and although Eli witnessed it, he never shared the story with her. Alyx was raised by Eli in the world controlled by the Combine, likely at Black Mesa East much of the time. During this time, Alyx was also on good terms with Isaac Kleiner, referring to him as "Uncle Kleiner" in an affectionate portrait she once offered him. During Alyx's childhood, Eli used scrap metal to create Dog, a sentient robot designed to protect her, making him physically powerful, intelligent and with an in-built sixth sense so that he could always know Alyx's whereabouts. Although the initial model was a mere meter high, Alyx added new parts to Dog over time, making him a towering 2.5 meters high. As Alyx reached adulthood, she began working with the Resistance, as one of the core members of the City 17 branch. At the age of 19, she performed reconnaissance missions, and was friends with Russell and Olga. By the age of 24, she was assisting Kleiner and Barney Calhoun in helping citizens escape the city to Black Mesa East through the old Canals, as well as helping Kleiner, her father and Judith Mossman establish a teleport connection between Black Mesa East and Kleiner's Lab.
Five years ago, while intercepting a shipment of Combine mini-reactors, Eli and Alyx are captured by the Combine. While Alyx is freed from her captors by Russell, Eli is put on a train to Nova Prospekt. After acquiring the Gravity Gloves, Alyx derails the train, freeing him. After being saved from falling to his death by the Vortigaunt Gary, he makes his way back to Russell's Lab where he works to decrypt a Combine datapod in order to gain information about a mysterious Vault. After realizing the Vault is actually a prison floating in the sky which contains someone who wreaked havoc at Black Mesa and vanished, Alyx and Eli surmise that the Combine must be holding Gordon Freeman. Alyx goes to infiltrate the Vault. Before she does, Eli realizes something horrible and tries to warn Alyx not to enter, but it is too late as Alyx has already made it inside. Alyx opens the cell hoping to release Gordon but unknowingly releases the G-Man. The G-Man shows Alyx a vision of the future when her father is killed by an Advisor at White Forest. The G-Man lets Alyx intervene, killing the Advisor and saving Eli. He then tells Alyx that she has proven herself valuable and would be a good replacement for another who has failed or refused to do G-Man's bidding, showing her a glimpse of Gordon. He then leaves her floating in darkness.
Alyx came to be rescued by Vortigaunts, who also retrieved Gordon from G-Man, leaving them both outside the Citadel. They work together to delay the explosion by slowing the core's progression toward meltdown. They later go through a zombie-infested underground station and later working with Barney Calhoun to rescue members of the rebellion before the Citadel explodes. Alyx and Gordon travel to the White Forest Rocket Facility to deliver a crucial information packet stolen from the Citadel. Along the way, she is gravely wounded by a Combine Hunter. Healing her requires Gordon to make a dangerous trek through an Antlion colony to retrieve their "larval extract," an essential ingredient in the Vortigaunt healing process. As part of the healing process, her life is entwined with Gordon's. During this time, the G-Man appears to Gordon in a surreal "heart-to-heart" sequence and programs Alyx to tell her father to "prepare for unforeseen consequences." Once Alyx awakens, she and Gordon resume their quest toward White Forest. She delivers the Combine data to Dr. Kleiner, who manages to decrypt it and discover that Judith Mossman has found the legendary Borealis, an icebreaker ship which has disappeared during teleportation experiments. She delivers the message to her father after the G-Man triggers her programming, and later, two creatures called Advisors break in and kill Eli before Dog saves Gordon and Alyx.

She was highly proficient with firearms, carrying and accurately firing a custom-made, fully automatic 9mm machine pistol that she could wield with lethal precision under pressure.
Additionally, she carried a multi-purpose electronic hacking tool known as the Alyx Gun or EMP tool, which allowed her to rapidly bypass high-security electronic locks, reprogram hostile Combine technology, and manipulate secure computer mainframes.
