History

The Orions were an ancient species that inhabited the galaxy. Their origins were traced to a civilisation that emerged in the Galactic Core on a world that came to be known as Center One. The world was located near an unstable wormhole nexus where it gave rise to a unique civilisation that was composed of the system's original inhabitants along with numerous visitors from other systems that came to be trapped by the nexus. Thus, Center One resulted in the formation of a multi-species culture that had verse ideas, science, beliefs and language. However, the nexus came to accelerate the lifespan of the system's sun Solarus (Translation: "“the first sun") though this was unnoticed by local astrophysicists due to the slow rate of decay. Meanwhile, Center One’ s ruling factions determined that the best solution to eliminating criminals and undesirable elements from their society was by sending them on a one-way trip through the nexus which incidentally accelerated the decay. As a result, thousands of massive exile ships were dispatched in this manner which carried with them the undesirables of Center One society and enough resources to keep them theoretically alive and well until they landed. Over time, the destabilisation of Solarus meant that it would erupt in a nova much sooner than its normal lifespan. With barely a century left, the civilisation of Center One faced the prospect of total annihilation. This led to government sponsored programs to create giant colony ships capable of carrying their people to safety through the wormhole nexus. Other independent factions came to work on similar ships as well leading to dozens being launched from Center One.

The Orion-Antaran war was a protracted holocaust of galactic proportions that legend said involved combatants flinging star systems across deep space as weapons. Astrophysicists would later uncover evidence of directed energy bursts the power of which staggered the imagination. Both races had the ability to raze planets no one contested but eventually the Orions defeated the Antarans.

Rather than exterminating their foe, the Orions chose to imprison their enemies in a pocket dimension that was the size of a single star system, formed and carved somehow out of the fabric of space-time.

After the war, the Orion race inexplicably disappeared where they came to leave only two legacies for the galaxy’s future inhabitants. One was the tales of their power and legends of the Antaran war; the other was the Orion system itself. One planet circles this star, and it was reputed to be the original home world of the Orion race.

Overview

The ancient, enigmatic and incredibly technologically advanced race that once ruled the Orion Sector of the Galaxy.

They were able to carve out a fabric of space-time in order to create a pocket universe to serve as a prison for another species.
