Animalitia (Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts)

The Animalitia are a group that features in Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts.

History

The Animalitia were a criminal gang of animal-themed supervillains that were assembled secretly by the Penguin. Oswald Cobblepot brought the group together with the goal of becoming rich and to satisfy his own desire for revenge against Gotham City. This was because Cobblepot had grown angry at the ridicule that the citizens of Gotham had put on him. Thus, he brought together a team of villains that included Cheetah, Killer Croc, Silverback and the Man-Bat. The Man-Bat was actually Dr. Kirk Langstrom who was exposed to a serum that turned him into a hybrid bat creature that suppressed his human personality. In this state, he was taken by the Penguin who forced him into servitude where he used the Man-Bat to perform crimes and made Dr. Langstrom build equipment for him. With Langstrom's aid, he created an army of robotic Cyber-Animals that were built by Bumbershoot Mechanics with these missions being publically shown as tools to protect humans from environmental catastrophes. Penguin's secret plan was the deployment of transmitters around the city to create a shield to protect his newly constructed headquarters known as Aviary that had a tractor beam built at the top. Thus, the Animalitia were deployed on assignments that were seemingly crimes but were actually done so to place the equipment. This was done so to herald the next stage of the master plan namely to use the tractor beam to drag the gold encrusted asteroid known as the Midas Heart that was passing by Earth and drag it towards Gotham. This act would have killed everyone in Gotham except those protected by the force shield around the Aviary whereupon the Cyber-Animals would be deployed to scavenge the gold from the asteroid's impact. As a result, not only would Cobblepot get his revenge against the Gotham people but become rich as well.

Overview

At their command were the Cyber-Animals that were a legion of machines constructed in the form of animals that included a sabretooth, a wolf and a bat. These robots contained sophisticated sensors, equipment and an A.I. that allowed them to engage in a wide variety of actions.

They were based at the Aviary that was a large skyscraper constructed by Cobblepot in Gotham. It was held as the biggest building within Gotham City that was even larger than Wayne Enterprises.
