Biography

Anomaly was a clone of convicted murderer Floyd "Bullets" Barstow who had killed seven people in cold blood before being gunned down by the police. His genetic material was gathered by Project Cadmus with the large scientific think tank decided to use it for their experiments in genetics. This culminated in the creation of a clone of Barstow who operated as a security guard at the Cadmus facility. After a fight with a person named Misa, the slight scratches on his right hand become inflamed and his powers manifested. He believes this 'evil' comes from his original DNA source. (Adventures of Superman v1 #539)

After escaping from Cadmus, he joins the Superman Revenge Squad where Superman defeats him. Intergang, a vast criminal organization, easily gets him out of prison and Anomaly begins working with the group. Intergang's mission to kill Cadmus' protector, Guardian, fails when Anomaly experiences a change of heart. He helps protect Guardian. In return, Anomaly is allowed to return to Cadmus, to see if he could be helped.

Overview

Personality and attributes

He wanted to understand his genetic forebear Floyd Barstow where he wanted to know who he was and why he ended up the way he did in life. (Adventures of Superman v1 #539)

Initially, he came to believe that he himself was a good man. However, this began to change when he started reverting to his Anomaly persona and Barstow believed he was as bad as his genetic forebear. (Adventures of Superman v1 #542) Despite his efforts, he came to fall to his evil nature that was encoded in his genetics. (Adventures of Superman v1 #539)

Powers and abilities

Barstow was a genetic clone of the original Floyd Barstow where he was seemingly an ordinary human. However, changes in his DNA led to him gaining the power to turn his body into any substance he touched. He was able to turn into material such as steel, cement or wood through contact. (Adventures of Superman v1 #539) By absorbing the property of rocks, he could camouflage himself and evade detection. (Adventures of Superman v1 #543)
